No. 30 Men's Squash Falls to No. 25 Dickinson, No. 19 F&M in CC Round Robin Play

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The 30th-ranked Haverford College men's squash team (4-10) competed in its final tune-up for the Liberty League Championships on Saturday afternoon inside the GIAC, taking on the Centennial Conference Round Robin against No. 25 Dickinson and No. 19 Franklin & Marshall. The Fords were narrowly edged by Dickinson in the morning, falling 5-4, before dropping a 7-2 decision to Franklin & Marshall in the late afternoon contest.

Against Dickinson, Haverford struggled at the top of the ladder as the Red Devils secured victories in the top four flights. At the first flight, Aaryaman Jaising fell to Joe Smythe 3-0 (11-4, 11-1, 11-4), while at the second flight Ben Levy lost to Elian Vera 3-0 (11-1, 11-9, 11-7). At third flight, Kai Schinaman battled Owen Buroker to a five-game thriller before falling 3-2 (6-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4), and at fourth flight Jet Li was defeated by William Krizek 3-1 (6-11, 11-5, 11-6, 13-11).

Haverford found success at the fifth flight as Qianzhi Zhao defeated Derek Du in five games (9-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-5, 11-8). The sixth flight saw Dean Ibrahim earn a 3-1 win over Cormac Sullivan (10-12, 11-3, 11-9, 11-4), while at the seventh flight Nevin Mital defeated Gerardo Ortiz 3-0 (11-8, 11-2, 12-10). In the eighth flight, Francis Betkowski defeated George Vollmer V 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-5), and Arvin Krishnan logged a 3-0 exhibition victory over Colin Wagenbach (11-3, 11-3, 11-6).

In the afternoon against Franklin & Marshall, the Fords again faced stiff competition at the top of the ladder. At the first flight, Ben Levy stepped in to the top spot and fell 3-0 to Aditya Chandani (7-11, 6-11, 5-11). At the second flight, Kai Schinaman battled Toby Clegg-Petri to a 3-1 loss (7-11, 5-11, 11-9, 2-11), and at the third flight Jet Li was defeated by Noah Katzer 3-1 (6-11, 10-12, 11-7, 6-11).

At the fourth flight, Qianzhi Zhao fell to Jamie Stait 3-0 (9-11, 5-11, 5-11), while at the fifth flight Advait Chandramouli lost to Akshat Agarwal 3-0 (4-11, 4-11, 7-11). At the sixth flight, Dean Ibrahim dropped a 3-1 decision to Teerth Jilka (11-6, 9-11, 5-11, 6-11), and at the seventh flight Nevin Mital fell 3-1 to Eeshan Sawant (6-11, 11-9, 11-13, 3-11).

Haverford earned wins at the lower flights as Francis Betkowski won at the eighth flight over Aman Nayyar 3-1 (11-3, 11-3, 9-11, 11-4), Arvin Krishnan prevailed at the ninth flight against Justin Lane 3-1 (11-2, 11-4, 3-11, 11-3), and Wayne Hsu earned a 3-0 victory over JP Osborne in the exhibition match. 

Men's Squash will now return to action on Saturday, February 14, when the Liberty League Championships open a two-day stint at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., with matchups and times to be announced early this week.
