HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (4-0) secured a decisive 17-4 victory over the Pennsylvania College of Technology (3-1) on Wednesday at Swan Field, extending its winning streak to four games. The Fords thrived on extra-man opportunities, scoring five man-up goals, while the Scarlet and Black dominated at the faceoff X (19-of-25) and limited the Wildcats to just four goals.
Reid Tietjen led Haverford with three goals and five assists for a game-high eight points. Colin Hulett added four goals, converting all four of his shots on target. Philip Passalaqua recorded four points on one goal and three assists, and Mac Grubb chipped in three helpers. Tietjen also secured a team-high six ground balls, while Nils Bergstrom collected five. In goal, the Scarlet and Black saw reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week Mac Broaddus earn the win with three saves on five shots faced. Max Esteban went 8-of-12 at the faceoff X to help control possession.
The Fords established control early in the first quarter. Hulett opened the scoring at 8:31 off an assist from Tietjen, who later added a goal of his own. Haverford capitalized on a man-up opportunity when Snyder scored at 6:54, assisted by Ethan Waugh. After Penn College's Aidan McFalls answered at 4:07, the Scarlet and Black responded with three consecutive goals, including a second tally from Tietjen and a late-quarter strike from Braeden Hulett. Haverford closed the opening frame with a commanding 7-1 lead, highlighted by three first-quarter assists from Passalaqua.
The Scarlet and Black continued to press the advantage in the second quarter. Will Weinstein opened the frame with a man-up goal at 14:08, set up by Tietjen. Snyder followed with another extra-man score at 13:05 off a Passalaqua assist. Hulett then netted two straight goals, including an unassisted finish at 7:11 following a Wildcats penalty. McFalls found the net for Penn College at 3:57, but the Fords had the final say in the half as Tietjen scored with 59 seconds remaining off a Grubb assist, sending Haverford into halftime ahead 12-2.
Penn College's Gavin Selchert opened the third-quarter scoring, but Haverford answered quickly. Hulett struck again at 10:12 off a Tietjen feed to restore the double-digit margin. Gavin Kim added two goals for the Scarlet and Black, including a man-up tally at 4:22 assisted by Grubb and another at 1:55 from Blake Donnellan. Bergstrom also converted during an extra-man opportunity at 4:10 as the Fords maintained control behind strong faceoff play.
In the fourth quarter, Haverford remained firmly in command despite a Wildcats goal from McFalls at 9:49. Turner Elliott capped the scoring with 49 seconds left, finishing a pass from Grubb. The Scarlet and Black stayed disciplined defensively, clearing efficiently and limiting quality looks to secure the 17-4 victory.
The Fords return to action on Saturday, Feb. 28, traveling to Stockton for a 3 p.m. matchup in Galloway, New Jersey.
