Field Hockey Extinguishes Red Devils, 4-1

CARLISLE, Pa. – Erica Pardón was credited with her second hat trick in eight days Saturday afternoon as the Haverford College field hockey team (9-6, 5-2 CC) rolled past host Dickinson (6-7, 3-3 CC), 4-1, in a crucial Centennial Conference matchup at the Biddle Field Complex.

Pardón brought her season total to 13 goals, the most by a Haverford player since Ravenel Davis '22 finished the 2021 campaign with 17. Lily Gover added a goal as the Scarlet and Black secured their third consecutive conference victory and fourth win in five contests, avenging last season's home loss to the Red Devils.

After a quiet opening quarter in which each team registered one shot, Haverford established its attacking presence in the second period. The Fords broke through at 19:39 on a goal officially credited to Pardón following video review, taking a lead they would not relinquish. Haverford continued to apply pressure, earning consecutive penalty corners in the 23rd and 24th minutes. Pardón and Louisa Coughlin each had attempts blocked as the Fords threatened to extend their advantage.

Dickinson generated its best opportunity of the half in the 27th minute, but Steph Ionescu denied Megan McClure to preserve the lead. Haverford entered intermission ahead 1-0, holding a 5-2 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage in penalty corners. The Scarlet and Black seized control after halftime with two goals just 31 seconds apart. Following a penalty corner, Brynn Bickel set up Gover for a blast from the top at 35:31, doubling the advantage.

Haverford quickly earned another corner, and after Pardón's initial attempt was blocked, Coughlin found the forward for a finish at 36:02 and a 3-0 lead. Pardón nearly added another a minute later, but Dickinson goalkeeper Arden Cook turned away her attempt. The Red Devils earned three consecutive penalty corners late in the third quarter, but Haverford prevented a shot during the sequence to carry its three-goal cushion into the final period.

Dickinson broke through at 47:15 when Caroline Kirkpatrick converted following consecutive penalty corners, trimming the deficit to 3-1. The Fords responded with pressure of their own as Maryn Schreyer forced a Cook save at 50:58. After Dickinson's Raegan Carty sent an attempt wide in the 55th minute, Haverford delivered the decisive response.

Alice Stein connected a centering pass with Pardón at 55:05 to complete the hat trick and restore the three-goal advantage. Pardón also was credited with three goals in Haverford's 4-1 victory over Gettysburg on Oct. 10. Dickinson earned three penalty corners in the closing four minutes, but Ionescu denied Nicole Uebele at 56:31 and Erin Liggio at 58:55. The Fords blocked another Uebele attempt in the final minute to close out the victory.

Pardón paced Haverford with six shots, including four on goal, while Morgan Reis added two attempts. Bickel, Coughlin and Stein each registered an assist. Ionescu played all 60 minutes and recorded three saves, while Cook finished with two stops.

Haverford held an 11-7 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Dickinson led 10-7 in penalty corners, including six in the fourth quarter, but the Fords held firm to secure another important conference road result.

Haverford now returns to action on Wednesday, October 21 with a Bi-Co showdown against Bryn Mawr on the docket for 7 p.m. at Swan Field.
