HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College men's basketball team (6-5) opened 2026 with one of the most dominant performances in program history on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Marywood (7-4) by a score of 110–60 at Calvin J. Gooding '84 Arena. The 50-point victory tied for the sixth-most points scored in a game by the Fords and marked the second-highest scoring output by the program since 1994. Haverford set the tone early with a 54-point first half and knocked down 14 three-pointers throughout the contest, finishing just two shy of the program record of 16, which the Scarlet and Black matched earlier this season against Valley Forge on Nov. 8, 2025.
Haverford wasted little time establishing control, jumping out to an early advantage behind aggressive defense and crisp ball movement. Gaven Marr opened the scoring with a three-pointer just 22 seconds in, and the Fords followed with a flurry of transition baskets fueled by steals from Marr and Alex George. A 10-0 run—highlighted by triples from Tyler Nolan and Seth Anderson—stretched the lead to double digits at 18–8 with 14:14 remaining in the opening half. Isaac Varghese added a fast-break three at the 6:19 mark, igniting a 14-2 surge that pushed the margin to 40–19. Haverford closed the half on a 12-6 run, capped by another three from Varghese and a layup by Carter Warren in the final seconds, to take a commanding 54-27 lead into the break.
The Fords shot 55.6 percent from the field and 8-of-16 from beyond the arc in the opening half, while forcing nine Marywood turnovers that turned into 10 points. Adam Strong-Jacobson anchored the interior early, pulling down seven rebounds in the first 20 minutes as Haverford built a 27-point cushion.
Any hope of a Marywood comeback was quickly erased in the second half. The Fords outscored the visitors 15-10 over the opening six minutes, capped by a transition layup from Marr off a turnover to extend the lead beyond 30. Varghese took over midway through the half, scoring seven points during a decisive stretch that included a three-pointer, a steal-and-layup, and two free throws to balloon the advantage to 83-41. The Fords continued to pour it on, pushing the lead to as many as 53 points with 5:12 remaining after back-to-back three-pointers from Kae Kilic.
The Scarlet and Black closed the game with strong bench play and continued defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and converting in transition. Emmanuel Cheung Hernandez capped the scoring with back-to-back fast-break layups in the final minute, sealing the 110-60 final and completing a wire-to-wire victory.
Five Fords finished in double figures, led by Varghese, who scored a season-high 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting while knocking down all three of his three-point attempts and adding four assists and three steals. Strong-Jacobson recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Marr added 12 points and two steals. Warren chipped in 11 points and four assists, and Coleman finished with 10 points. As a team, Haverford shot 58.1 percent from the field and 48.3 percent from three-point range, while scoring 21 fast-break points and 63 bench points.
Marywood was led by Michel Loftin with 14 points, while Shilo Bivens added 11 points. The Pacers were held to 34.3 percent shooting and just 4-of-28 from beyond the arc.
Haverford will next travel to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to face Franklin & Marshall in a non-conference matchup against the Centennial Conference foe on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 6 p.m.
