HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College volleyball sophomore middle blocker Fiona Moord (Maple City, Mich./Leland Public School) has been named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a standout performance to open the 2025 season at the Haverford Invitational.
Moord earned Tournament MVP honors at the annual season-opening event, where the Fords posted a 3-1 record. Over four matches, she recorded 22 total blocks, including four solo and 18 assisted. On the first night, against Lebanon Valley and Stockton, she tallied 11 total blocks. She closed the tournament by leading all players with nine blocks in Haverford's upset win over (RV) Stevens.
In the season opener against Lebanon Valley on August 29, Moord contributed six kills and six total blocks in a straight-sets win. Later that day, despite a close loss to Stockton, she added eight kills and five total blocks.
On August 30 against Union (N.Y.), Moord posted 11 kills with a .348 hitting percentage. Across the opening weekend, she led Haverford in solo blocks, block assists, and total blocks, anchoring the team's formidable presence at the net. She capped the weekend with five kills and nine block assists against Stevens.
In the national rankings, Moord currently sits second in NCAA Division III in total blocks with 22, just one shy of the national lead. She also ranks 22nd in the nation in blocks per set (1.38), while Haverford ranks second nationally as a team in total blocks with 38.
Moord and the Fords return to action Friday as the Ford Invitational opens at Gooding Arena. Haverford will face another team receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, Springfield (5 p.m.), before Scranton closes the night against Lynchburg (7 p.m.).
