Women's Soccer Draws with Scranton, 0-0

SCRANTON, Pa. — The Haverford College women's soccer team (2-2-1) battled to a scoreless draw with Scranton (3-1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field. The Fords' goalkeeping duo of Lily Buyer and Allie Billups combined for nine saves to preserve the shutout, holding off a Royals attack that generated 16 shots, including nine on target.

The first half saw both defenses hold firm. Scranton's Morgan Griffin tested Buyer in the fourth minute, but the Haverford keeper made the stop. The Fords nearly broke through in the 14th minute when Katie Dowd's shot was turned aside by Royals goalkeeper Makenzie Van Arsdale. Scranton pushed forward late in the half, with Peyton DiLello firing wide in the 27th minute and Lena Madjor denied by Buyer in the 43rd minute.

The Royals kept the pressure on in the second half, forcing Billups into action with saves on Jenna Borelli in the 54th minute and back-to-back stops against Griffin and Libby Masterson. THaverford ountered with chances of their own, including efforts from Madeline Dosen and Ali Dorrego that narrowly missed. Despite multiple late corner kicks from Scranton, including one in the 84th minute, the match ended 0-0 as both backlines stayed resolute.

Buyer finished with four saves in the opening half, while Billups tallied five more in the second, combining for the clean sheet. Dowd registered the lone shot on goal for Haverford.

For Scranton, Griffin led the offense with four shots, three on target. Borelli added three attempts, including two on goal. Van Arsdale secured the shutout with one save in 90 minutes of play.

Haverford returns to action on Wednesday, September 17, traveling to Center Valley, Pa., to face DeSales. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
