Men's Soccer and Penn State Abington Play to 0-0 Draw

ABINGTON, Pa. — The Haverford College men's soccer team (2-0-3) battled Penn State Abington (0-3-2) to a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field.

Both sides leaned on their defenses, with the Fords firing 13 shots with six on goal, while limiting the Lions to just five attempts, only one of which was on frame. With the result, Haverford extended its unbeaten streak to five matches for the first time since 2023.

The Fords were on the front foot early, as Kieran Kunihiro forced a save from Brendan Werner just two minutes into the match. Haverford continued to apply pressure, with Andrew Fritz and John Dowd among those testing the Lions' defense, but Werner turned away every attempt.

The Lions' goalkeeper stood tall late in the half with key stops in the 34th and 43rd minutes to preserve the 0-0 scoreline heading into the break.

Haverford came out firing in the second half, led by first-year Charles Sharp, who took three shots in the first six minutes, including two on target that Werner kept out. Additional efforts from Jack Bonner and Jonathan D'Amour also failed to break through. The half was physical, with frequent fouls and a yellow card issued to Penn State Abington's Frank Monaco in the 64th minute. Despite the Fords' persistent attacking play, the Lions' defense held firm, and neither team could find the winner as the match ended in a stalemate.

Sharp paced the Fords with four shots, two on goal, while Fritz and D'Amour each added two attempts. In goal, Grayson Benson earned his second shutout of the season, making one save over 90 minutes.

Werner anchored the Lions with a six-save performance, securing the clean sheet. Aramis Shire tallied the hosts' lone shot on goal, while Laurence Narcisi chipped in with two attempts.

The Scarlet and Black return to action on Saturday, September 13, traveling to Selinsgrove, Pa., to face Susquehanna at 4 p.m.
