SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The Haverford College men's soccer team (3-0-3) earned a 1-0 victory over Susquehanna (1-4-0) on Saturday afternoon at Sassafras Field. The lone goal came in the 74th minute, as Josh Brown headed home the eventual game-winner off a cross from Carter Kroenke. With the result, the Fords extended their unbeaten streak to six matches for the first time since 2023.
The opening half ended scoreless despite Haverford controlling play and outshooting the hosts 13-2. The Scarlet and Black produced several quality chances, with Thomas Vanni registering three shots on target, all denied by Susquehanna goalkeeper Finn Kramer, who tallied six first-half saves to keep the match level.
Haverford continued its offensive pressure after halftime, generating early looks from Vanni and Charles Sharp that forced more stops from Kramer. After a flurry of corners and attempts from Andrew Fritz and Kieran Kunihiro, the breakthrough finally came in the 74th minute. Off a long throw-in, the ball cycled back to Kroenke on the flank, who whipped in a dangerous cross. Brown rose above the defense in front of goal and nodded the ball past Kramer to give the Fords the decisive 1-0 lead.
The River Hawks pushed forward in the closing minutes with shots from Alex Clark and Jack McCarthy, but goalkeeper Grayson Benson preserved the clean sheet with a timely save, while Susquehanna's late efforts went off target.
Brown finished with the game-winning goal on two shots, while Fritz led all players with four attempts, including two on frame. Kroenke added an assist and one shot on goal. Between the posts, Benson earned the shutout with one save in 90 minutes of action.
Kramer kept Susquehanna within reach, recording 11 saves against 24 total Haverford shots. Clark placed the hosts' lone shot on target, while McCarthy paced the River Hawks with two attempts.
The Fords return home on Tuesday, September 16, to host No. 2 Rowan at Walton Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
