Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw With Rutgers-Camden

HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College men's soccer team (0-0-2) and Rutgers-Camden (1-0-1) played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday at historic Walton Field as the Fords wrapped up a back-to-back stint of competition on opening weekend with a second consecutive stalemate.

The first half was marked by a defensive stand-off, with both teams remaining scoreless. The Fords' Grayson Benson made a crucial save on a shot by Rutgers-Camden's Declan Capps in the 32nd minute, keeping the visitors from taking the lead. Despite several corner kick opportunities, including one taken by Juan Rivera in the 37th minute, the match remained tied at halftime.

The second half began with a strategic lineup for the Fords as Benson and Thomas Vanni were among the starters. Despite multiple attempts from both sides, the defense remained strong, with Haverford's Andrew Fritz and Jonathan D'Amour each having shots saved by Rutgers-Camden's goalkeeper Aleksander Nycz in the 73rd and 77th minutes, respectively.

The half saw numerous fouls exchanged between the teams, resulting in yellow cards for D'Amour and John Dowd, as well as Gabe Knopf, in the 71st and 86th minutes, respectively, maintaining a goalless draw by the end of regulation.

The first half between Haverford and Rutgers-Camden concluded with a scoreless draw. The Fords attempted to establish early momentum with a corner kick by Vanni in the third minute, followed by a header shot by Kieran Kunihiro that went high. The Scarlet Raptors responded with a series of five corner kicks, primarily taken by Miguel Graterol and Brandon Valeri, from the 14th to the 22nd minute, although they were unable to capitalize on these opportunities. Both teams exhibited a physical style of play, resulting in a total of 15 fouls and two yellow cards, one for each team, highlighting the intensity of the match. Notably, Benson made a key save in the 32nd minute on a shot by Capps to keep the score level.

The second half began with Rutgers-Camden taking early offensive actions, highlighted by Graterol's corner kicks in the 50th and 54th minute,  but their attempts were thwarted by Haverford's defense.

The Fords responded with a corner kick by Vanni at 61', though they struggled to convert on their opportunities. The half was marked by a series of fouls, totaling nine for the Fords and six for the Scarlet Raptors, indicating a physical contest. Despite efforts from both teams, including blocked and wide shots by Rutgers-Camden and saves by their goalkeeper Nycz against Haverford attempts, the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Benson recorded a shutout, his first for the Fords, and made one save in his 90 minutes between the pipes, highlighting the defensive performance for the Fords. Fritz, D'Amour, and Cooper Cohen each registered one shot on goal for Haverford.

Nycz recorded three saves and maintained a shutout over 90 minutes. Nik Grello led the team with two shots, while Valeri also contributed with two shots, although neither registered a shot on goal.
