HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College men's soccer team (1-0-2) earned its first victory of the season with a 3-1 win over the Immaculata Mighty Macs (0-2-0) on Wednesday afternoon at Walton Field. With the result, the Scarlet and Black extended their unbeaten start to three matches to begin 2025.
The Fords wasted little time creating separation in the first half. In the 20th minute, Kieran Kunihiro broke the deadlock, volleying home a headed pass from Andrew Fritz for the opener. Just two minutes later, Jonathan D'Amour doubled the advantage, finishing a pass from Thomas Vanni to make it 2-0. Immaculata answered in the 35th minute when Michael Prall converted off a feed from Jonathan Olaleye, cutting the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.
D'Amour restored the two-goal cushion early in the second half. After Gabe Knopf was taken down in the box, the sophomore calmly converted the 53rd-minute penalty kick for his second tally of the day. Immaculata generated chances but failed to capitalize, with Carlos Garcia missing wide in the 51st minute and Matthew Skipper off target in the 72nd. Haverford continued to apply pressure, but Mighty Macs goalkeeper Luca Greppellini kept the visitors in the game with six saves, including a diving stop on a Kunihiro header in the 63rd minute.
The scoreline ultimately held at 3-1 as the Fords secured their first win of the season. D'Amour finished with two goals, including the game-winner, and led the team with four shots (three on target). Kunihiro added a goal on two attempts, while Jack Bonner was active with four shots, one on frame.
For Immaculata, Prall's lone goal came on his only shot of the contest, while Olaleye provided the assist. Greppellini recorded six saves despite conceding three times.
Haverford now hits the road for its next test, traveling to St. Davids, Pa., to face Eastern on Friday, September 5, at 4 p.m.
