HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 16 Haverford Men's Tennis team celebrated its senior class in style Saturday afternoon with a commanding 7-0 victory over visiting Muhlenberg (9-6, 0-4 CC) on a warm and pleasant afternoon at the Bramall Courts. The Fords (13-3, 5-1 CC) did not drop a set en route to the convincing victory.
Fittingly, seniors James McKenzie, Justin Minerva, Danny Loder, and Max Beckwith all delivered standout performances, going undefeated in both singles and doubles on their Senior Day.
Haverford jumped out to a 1-0 lead after sweeping doubles. The top pair of James McKenzie and Justin Minerva set the tone with a dominant 6-0 win over William Rose and Owen Dyer at No. 1. Junior Niki Lavu and sophomore Chait Krishna followed with a 6-2 victory against Josh Simon and Gabriel Tamarkin at No. 3, before Danny Loder and Max Beckwith closed out the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Matt Miller and Max Gofton at No. 2.
In singles, rookie Zach Miano was first off the court with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4, dispatching Max Gofton. Sophomore Maxfield Ma quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 over Josh Simon and Beckwith sealed the team victory at No. 6, overpowering his opponent Gabriel Tamarkin, 6-0, 6-1.
Minerva added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, turning away Matt Miller before McKenzie capped the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win on the top court, taking down Owen Dyer. Loder finished off the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over William Rose at No. 3.
Haverford, currently ranked No. 16 in the nation and No. 4 in the Atlantic South region, will return to action next week, with a home battle on the horizon against Ursinus on Tuesday, April 22 (4 p.m.). The contest will serve as Haverford's Hidden Opponent Green Out Match for Mental Health Awareness.
