Women's Basketball Cruises to 82-34 Win at Penn State Berks

READING, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team (5-3) was in full command in an 82-34 victory over the host Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks (2-10) in non-conference action from the Beaver Athletics and Wellness Center on Wednesday evening.

Haverford connected on nine three-pointers and held a 31-0 edge in fastbreak points. The Fords shot 46.4 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point range while limiting the Nittany Lions to 20.8 percent shooting and forcing 24 turnovers. Haverford scored 40 points in the paint and 24 off turnovers.

Brianna Feifer led the team with a career-best 22 points, converting a career-high 9 of 11 field goal attempts and adding two steals. Caroline Orza contributed 20 points, sinking three three-pointers and recording four steals. Shae Mercer facilitated the offense with eight assists while collecting nine rebounds. Audrey Jakway displayed defensive strength with two blocks and two steals, along with six points.

Annie Laubach led the Nittany Lions with 12 points, including three three-pointers, and added one block in her starting role. Hailey Miller contributed nine points and was active on the boards with six rebounds. Gianna Roberts was effective in playmaking, tallying three assists and grabbing three rebounds.

Haverford broke things open quickly after the Nittany Lions stayed close through the first six minutes. Holding a 14-12 edge, the Fords ripped off an 11-0 run to seize a 25-12 advantage and halt the PSU Berks momentum.

After a Lions basket briefly stopped the surge, Haverford answered with another 11-1 spurt, stretching the lead to 36-15 on a driving layup from Georgia Koff-Gilmore with six minutes left in the half.

Orza followed with a three-pointer to push the margin to 39-17, and the Fords then closed the period on a 13-3 run. They continued to slice to the rim at will, punctuated by an Orza driving layup and an Urvi Iyer jumper at the buzzer.

The momentum continued after halftime, with the scoring run ballooning to 16-0 as the lead reached 40 at 63-23 following a three-point play from Orza with 7:24 left in the third. The Nittany Lions managed to stop the run with a triple from McKinzie Tritz at the 4:09 mark of the frame, but were later held scoreless in the final 3:37 of the stanza as the Fords entered the final quarter up 70-28.

The drought from beyond the arc reached 1-of-17 for the hosts, while on the other end, Bri Heafey connected from distance for a 46-point cushion at 77-31. A three-point play from Brianna Pellew and a layup from Alyssa Aslam helped the Fords finish the contest with a 48-point margin of victory, their largest this season.

Women's Basketball will next travel to face Penn State Brandywine on Saturday, Dec. 13. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in Media, Pennsylvania in the final tune-up before the break for finals exams and winter holidays.
