MEDIA, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team (6-3) entered the winter break on a winning note, dispatching Penn State Brandywine (0-10) by a 66-43 final in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon in Media. Haverford turned in a dominant rebounding performance, securing 46 boards to the Lions' 39, while the Fords' defense stood out with seven blocks and eight steals.
Caroline Orza led the Fords with 19 points, knocking down six field goals and six free throws. Bri Heafey added 12 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Brianna Feifer contributed 14 points and eight rebounds, while Audrey Jakway posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four blocks and four steals.Â
Jazmyn Kemp paced the Lions on the glass with 10 rebounds, evenly split between offensive and defensive boards. Ashley Robinson scored a team-high nine points and added five rebounds before fouling out. Cassidy Tolbert contributed defensively with two steals, while also recording four rebounds and an assist. Analise Sierra matched Tolbert with two steals and chipped in seven points, including a three-pointer. Rayne Manson also chipped in two steals and scored six points.
A sluggish opening quarter saw Brandywine even the score at 11-11 with 2:39 remaining, sparked by back-to-back baskets from Robinson. Journey Handy followed with a layup in the final two minutes to give the Nittany Lions a 13-11 edge. Feifer later converted a pair of free throws to knot the contest at 13-13 at the end of the first quarter. Haverford struggled offensively in the period, shooting just 21.1 percent from the field and going 0-for-8 from beyond the arc.
A 10-2 Haverford run early in the second quarter helped establish a six-point cushion at the seven-minute mark, highlighted by Orza gliding to the basket ahead of a Jakway layup that forced the hosts to call a timeout. Heafey connected on the first three-pointer of the contest with 5:36 remaining, as the Fords' spurt grew to 17-4 and extended the lead to 25-17. Manson answered with a layup off a turnover and later assisted on a Sierra triple as the Nittany Lions trimmed the deficit to 10 entering the halftime break.
With both teams struggling from long range, Haverford capitalized in the paint during an 18-11 third quarter. Feifer, Orza, and Jakway all reached double figures in the frame, with Jakway finishing a layup with 1:28 remaining to push the lead to 51-35. Heafey buried a three-pointer in the final minute as the Fords entered the fourth quarter ahead 54-37.
Georgia Koff-Gilmore drilled a three-pointer early in the fourth to extend the margin to 20 and ignite a 7-0 run, as the Nittany Lions were held scoreless for nearly six minutes. The surge expanded into a 13-3 run, highlighted by an efficient stretch in which Haverford connected on seven of eight shots from the field. The Fords then endured a scoreless drought of their own for nearly six minutes before Gracie Eilberg broke through with a layup in the closing moments.
Women's Basketball will pause for finals and the winter holidays before returning to the court ahead of the new year with warm-weather action at the Florida Sunshine Shootout. The Fords will compete at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, facing Wisconsin–Stevens Point on December 28 at 2 p.m. and Curry College on December 30 at 2 p.m. to close out the 2025 portion of the schedule.
