CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (3-5-3, 1-3-0 CC) fell 1-0 to Washington College (6-3-1, 1-2-0 CC) on Saturday at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium in a closely contested Centennial Conference matchup.
Haverford's defense held strong in the opening half against early Washington College pressure. Goalkeeper Allie Billups made crucial stops, including in the third minute against Bridget Whiteside and the 15th minute against Kaileigh Brady, keeping the match scoreless.
The Fords' offense also made an impression, with Carly Rusak and Abigale Baker firing shots that were off target but forced Washington College goalkeeper Olivia Allen to stay alert. Haverford's defense held firm after Sophie Kilbride hit the post, keeping the Shorewomen from breaking through in the first 45 minutes.
The second half saw Washington College maintain tight defense while Haverford continued to search for a breakthrough. Abigail Baker and Sophia Mitchell had shots turned away by Allen before the Shorewomen finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute. Audrey McNair delivered a well-placed cross into the box, finding Jackie Pascual, who one-timed a headed pass to Bridget Whiteside. Whiteside collected the helper and tucked the ball past Billups' dive to the near post, giving Washington College the lead.
Haverford responded with multiple corner opportunities and a shot from Clare Hawley, but the Fords were unable to equalize, as the Shorewomen held on for the 1-0 victory.
Billups finished with five saves, facing 14 shots and allowing one goal. Haverford's offense was led by Baker, Mitchell, and Hawley, each contributing multiple attempts. Washington College's Whiteside recorded the lone goal and led her team with five shots, three on target, while Pascual added the assist. Allen secured the shutout with two saves, limiting Haverford to eight total shots.
Haverford will return home to face Bryn Mawr on October 8 at 4 p.m. as Centennial Conference action continues at Walton Field.
