Field Hockey Climbs to No. 16 in NFHCA Coaches Poll

MANAHAWKIN, N.J. – The Haverford College field hockey team has risen to No. 16 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Coaches Poll, released Tuesday morning by the organization.

The Fords (12-2, 6-1 Centennial Conference) went 1-1 over the past week after two hard-fought Centennial Conference matchups. Haverford earned a dramatic overtime victory over Washington College on Wednesday, as Louisa Coughlin converted a penalty stroke to secure the win. The triumph marked a program-record ninth consecutive victory and extended the team's best-ever start to 12-1.

The historic streak however, came to an end on Saturday in a narrow 1-0 defeat to No. 13 Dickinson. Despite the result, the Scarlet and Black delivered a strong performance, outshooting the Red Devils 9-8 and holding a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners — a showing that helped the team maintain respect among NFHCA voters.

At the top of this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll, Christopher Newport and Johns Hopkins remain at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Babson moved up to No. 3, while Salisbury dropped to No. 4, and Tufts held steady at No. 5. Among other notable movements, Wesleyan jumped three spots to No. 8 after ranking No. 11 last week. The NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll is determined by votes from member coaches and reflects national performance throughout the season. It does not factor into NCAA postseason selections.

In addition to its NFHCA ranking, Field Hockey currently stands at No. 16 in the latest NCAA Power Index (NPI), which plays a key role in shaping the at-large selections for the 2025 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship. This year's championship will feature 28 teams, including 18 automatic qualifiers and 10 at-large selections based on the final NPI standings following the conclusion of all regular-season games on Sunday, November 9.

The Fords return to action on Tuesday, October 22, when they travel to Bryn Mawr to face their Bi-Co rivals, with a start time set for 4 p.m.
