ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Haverford College women's soccer team (4-7-3, 2-5-0 CC) fell in a tight 1-0 Centennial Conference contest to Muhlenberg (5-8-1, 2-4-0 CC) on Wednesday evening at Varsity Field. Despite a strong offensive showing with 19 total shots and 10 on target, the Fords were unable to break through a resilient Muhlenberg defense.
The Mules struck early in the 17th minute, as Madelyn Hill converted a low, driven cross from Kaylie Thran, with an additional assist credited to Jaidyn Falcone, giving Muhlenberg a 1-0 lead. Haverford pressed hard for an equalizer before halftime, but goalkeeper Dani Klingener made several key saves, including a header from Abigale Baker in the 30th minute and a late first-half shot from Alejandra Diaz to preserve the advantage.
The Fords came out strong after the break, forcing Klingener into multiple early saves. Ali Dorrego fired two shots on goal in quick succession, both stopped by the Muhlenberg keeper. Emma Kirk's corner in the 51st minute set up another dangerous header from Baker that just missed the target. In the 72nd minute, Sophia Mitchell nearly found the equalizer from close range, but Klingener again came up big with a diving save.
Moments later, Mitchell forced another outstanding stop as Klingener parried a powerful shot out of danger. Haverford continued to press in the closing minutes, with Diaz narrowly missing the frame, but Muhlenberg held on to secure the 1-0 victory.
Baker led the Fords with five shots, including two on goal, while Dorrego and Mitchell each recorded two shots on target. Buyer made four saves in the first half, keeping Haverford within reach.
Klingener was the difference-maker for the Mules, tallying 10 saves en route to the clean sheet. Hill scored the game's only goal on one of her two shots on target, while Falcone and Thran each added assists and contributed offensively.
The Fords return to Walton Field on Saturday, Oct. 18, for a noon kickoff against McDaniel in the first leg of a Centennial Conference doubleheader.
