FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The Haverford College men's soccer team (8-0-7) powered past Farmingdale State (4-6-3) with a 6-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Rams Field. The Fords dominated from start to finish, scoring twice in the first half before adding four more goals in the second.
The result extended Haverford's unbeaten streak to open the season to a program-record 15 matches, keeping pace with the 2015 squad that went 16 straight without defeat on its way to an NCAA Tournament Elite 8 appearance.
Charles Sharp opened the scoring in the 13th minute, heading home a pinpoint cross from Thomas Vanni to make it 1-0. The Fords kept the pressure on, forcing several saves from Rams goalkeeper Rocco Dispinseri, before Pavel Yurkov doubled the lead in the 40th minute. Yurkov buried a driven ball from Sho Nadata just before halftime to give Haverford a 2-0 advantage.
The Fords wasted no time adding to their tally after the break, as Sharp struck again in the 48th minute with a curling effort from distance, assisted by Vanni for his second helper of the day. Five minutes later, Josh Brown made it 4-0, heading in another perfectly placed cross from Vanni, who notched his third assist of the match. Jonathan D'Amour extended the lead to 5-0 in the 70th minute after dancing around Dispinseri and calmly slotting home a pass from Max Lovinger. First-year Aidan Wong capped off the scoring in the 78th minute, finishing a service from Juan Rivera to make it 6-0, as the rookie netted his first-career goal in the Scarlet and Black.
The match was called early in the 79th minute due to an injury sustained by a Farmingdale State player.
Sharp led the attack with two goals on six shots, including the game-winner. Brown, Yurkov, D'Amour, and Wong each added goals, while Vanni's three assists anchored the offensive surge.
Up next, the Fords return home to Walton Field to host McDaniel on Saturday, October 18, with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
