HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College field hockey sophomore goalkeeper Steph Ionescu has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in her career, the conference office announced Tuesday morning.
Ionescu led the 23rd-ranked Fords to another 2-0 week, posting an 88.9 percent save percentage and allowing just one goal across 140 minutes of action. The Wilton, Conn. native opened the week with a two-save shutout in a 2-0 win over Ursinus, marking the program's first-ever victory against the Bears. She followed with another strong outing at Gettysburg, making six saves in regulation before stopping five of six attempts in the shootout to secure a 2-1 win and Haverford's program record-tying eighth straight victory.
Nationally, Ionescu ranks 16th in goals-against average (0.93) and 20th in save percentage (83.6) across all of Division III.
Haverford will look to extend its historic start Wednesday at Washington College, with first pass in Chestertown, Maryland scheduled for 7 p.m.
