GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (6-2-1, 1-0-1 CC) defeated the Gettysburg Bullets (1-6-1, 0-3-0 CC) 1-0, in a primetime Centennial Conference matchup under the lights of Clark Field, on the campus of Gettysburg College. The victory is the first Centennial Conference win for Haverford this season.
The Fords got down to business early in their second Centennial Conference matchup of the year, finding the back of the net in just the 10th minute. Olivia D'Aulerio got the attack going, speeding down the left flank, sprinting closer and closer to the net. The junior centered a ball into the middle, where Phoebe Garfield simply tapped the ball past Gettysburg's Alex Jurow to give the Fords an early 1-0 lead.
Haverford had to deal with some chaos in the 55th minute, as the Bullets earned a corner kick. Jane Daiutolo put in a left-footed in-swinger towards the near post of the net that kept swirling closer and closer to the goal. Lilly Buyer bravely came off her line and got a piece of it, preventing the ball from curling into the back of the net. Another close chance came in the 60th minute, as a teasing cross came into the Fords' box. The ball bounced out and was corralled by Gettysburg's Zoe Want, who launched a shot to the back post. Buyer dove to her left and made a great stretching save to parry the attempt away.
Just eight minutes later, the Scarlet and Black came inches away from their second goal of the contest. Off a corner kick, Sarah Klink headed a shot towards the middle of the net. Jurow pushed the ball up into the air, which eventually took a bump off the crossbar. Jurow collected the ball, dispelling what was a giant opportunity for the Fords.
That attempt was the final threatening chance from either team, as Haverford left Gettysburg with three big points in the Centennial Conference standings.
The Bullets ended up outshooting the Fords 7-3, while Buyer made two giant saves to preserve her fifth shutout of the season.
Women's Soccer will return to historic Walton Field on Wednesday, October 2, to host the Immaculata Mighty Macs of the Atlantic East in a non-conference excursion. Kickoff for the non-conference match is slated for 4 p.m.
