HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (7-2-1) defeated Immaculata (5-6-1) in dominant fashion Wednesday afternoon, as the Fords found the back of the net six times against the Mighty Macs in a 6-0 shutout on Walton Field.
In just the 11th minute, the Fords jumped onto the scoreboard first. Grace Haskell found the ball at her feet in the middle of the box, with her back towards the net. Haskell played a pass out of the box to Sarah Klink who took a low driven shot towards the net. The ball deflected off an Immaculata defender and fell to Keira Prince, who buried one past Mighty Mac keeper Emily Guthier to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Klink then followed up her helper with a goal of her own in the 24th minute. Prince got the attack started, sprinting down the pitch with the ball, playing a forward pass to Haskell. Haskell poked the ball ahead to Klink, who rifled a shot past Guthier to extend the Scarlet and Black's lead to 2-0.
Out of the halftime break, the Fords went right back to their relentless offense, as Klink scored goal number two of the game in the 47th minute. Off a corner kick, Haskell played in a right-footed curling ball towards the near post. The ball took a bounce in the box towards Klink, who vollied a shot towards the right of Guthier into the next, to tack on Haverford's third goal of the contest.
Goal number four for the Scarlet and Black came in the 54th minute, as this time it was Haskell who joined the scoring party. Following a long pass from Sophia Miranda from the backline, Haskell went on a foot-race for the ball with Immaculata's Samantha Seidito. Seidito took a tumble in the box, as Haskell collected the ball and fired a shot through the legs of Guthier, to give the Fords a commanding 4-0 lead.
In the 65th minute, Haverford found their fifth goal of the contest from Lauren Anderson, who tallied her first collegiate goal. After Madeline Dosen played a ball down the field to Prince, the junior sent in a drive cross towards the net. The ball bounced in the middle of the net, then headed towards the back post. Anderson was on the doorstep of the pass, and slotted the shot home, to give the Fords a 5-0 advantage.
The sixth and final goal of the contest came from Dosen, who went for the extraordinary in the 67th minute. After Anderson slashed the midfield, the junior laid the ball off to Dosen, who was positioned way beyond the box. Dosen wound up and unleashed a screamer that went to the upper left corner of the net, pushing the Scarlet and Black's lead to 6-0.
Dosen's wonder goal was the final tally of the match, as the Fords collected an impressive 6-0 victory. Haverford outshot the Mighty Macs 29-4 on the afternoon, while Allie Billups, who made her first start of the season, picked up the clean sheet after making two clutch saves.
Women's soccer will return to conference play on Saturday, October 5, as the Fords will welcome the Dickinson Red Devils to historic Walton Field. The match, which will start at 3 p.m., will be the annual Play with Pride match in collaboration with Haverford's Play with Pride organization.
