Fords take down the Eagles

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team used its biggest offensive output of the season to take down Eastern University, 18-10, in non-conference action Wednesday at Swan Field.

Receiving goals from eight different players, the Fords (2-5) used a fast start to keep the Eagles (0-4) winless on the season.

Kenny Likes and Megan Gallagher each scored before the game was three minutes old to stake Haverford to the early 2-0 lead. The Fords continued to pour it on over the next 16 minutes as they scored seven of the next 10 goals, including three by Alexa Pesce, to extend their advantage to 9-3 with 11:15 left in the half. The two squads proceeded to trade scores over the remainder of the period resulting in Haverford's 11-5 lead at intermission.

Keeping the momentum rolling in the Fords' direction, Gallagher converted a free position shot and Perrin Downing added an unassisted tally to increase the Haverford advantage to 13-5 barely four minutes into the second half. Eastern moved to within 14-10 with 15 minutes remaining in the contest before the Fords scored four unanswered to close out the scoring.

Haverford fired 28 shots on the day with seven coming from the stick of Gallagher who finished with four goals. Diana Perry also tallied four goals giving her a team-high 15 on the season. Downing chipped in with two while Alexis Bond, Jen Schmidt, and Hannah Morgan added one.

The Fords also won the ground ball battle, 24-18, as Perry and Likes both collected four.

Leah Hammerschlag made five saves to register her second win of the season.

Courtney Reinhold led the Eagles with three goals while Kristy Getsay took the loss in goal.

Haverford looks to make it two in a row when it travels to McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon for a Centennial Conference clash starting at 1 p.m.
