HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team had its six-match winning streak come to an end after a 7-2 loss to Johns Hopkins University in a battle of Centennial Conference unbeatens Saturday afternoon at Bramall Courts.
The Fords are now 7-6 overall and 5-1 in the Centennial. Johns Hopkins, ranked 12th in the nation, goes to 11-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the conference.
Haverford started off strong by winning two of the three doubles matches. Matthew Cebul and Matt Romei took down Warren Elgert and Andrew Wang, 8-6, in the No 2 spot. Elgert and Wang are ranked seventh in the Atlantic South Region. Will Garrett and Hailiu Yang were victorious in the No. 3 match against Ryan Rauck and Jeff Kamei, 8-6.
The Blue Jays fought back to sweep the singles matches. Garrett put up a strong fight in the No. 6 position before falling to Jacob Barnaby, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Kevin Caulfield hung tough against Elgort in the No. 1 match, before dropping a 6-3, 6-4 decision. Elgort is 11th in the Atlantic South Region, while Caulfield is 12th.
Haverford will look to begin a new streak at Salisbury University in a non-conference match Sunday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m.
