Garrett wins twice, but Fords fall to Salisbury in men's tennis

SALISBURY, Md. – Will Garrett earned two points for the Haverford College men's tennis team Sunday afternoon but the Fords dropped a 6-3 decision to Salisbury University in non-conference action.

Garrett teamed with Hailiu Yang for a 9-7 win in the No. 3 doubles slot for the Fords' first point of the match against a Seagulls squad ranked ninth in the Atlantic South Region.

Haverford, ranked 15th in the Atlantic South, picked up its second point in the first flight of singles where Kevin Caulfield downed Salisbury's Andrew Nottage in straight sets.

Garrett defeated Justin Smith 2-0 at No. 6 for the Fords' final point of the match. In the fourth flight, Matt Romei broke on top of the Seagulls' Henry Stuhler with a, 6-4, first-set win, but Stuhler rallied winning the second and third sets for the home team.

Haverford's record evens at 7-7 with the loss while Salisbury improves to 14-5.

The Fords entertain Franklin & Marshall College in their next match, Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. on the Bramall Courts.
