HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the second time in as many matches, the Haverford College women's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 victory by defeating Muhlenberg College Tuesday in Centennial Conference play.
After losing two of three doubles matches, the Fords went on to win four singles matches in straight sets.
Helen Fisun and Celia Tong got Haverford its first point with their 8-0 win at No.3 doubles.
Katie Wettick evened things up with her 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles. Helen Fisun and Fumiko Shogase picked up wins at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively, but losses at Nos. 2 and 4 tied the match up at 4-4. With the match coming down to the No. 6 position, Tong downed Deniz Uzel, 7-5, 6-4 to give the Fords the victory.
Haverford improves to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference. The Mules fall to 3-7 on the season and 2-5 in the Centennial.
The Fords take a break from conference play Thursday when they travel to Wilkes University for a 3:30 p.m. match.
