ORLANDO – In its opening match of a spring break trip, the Haverford College men's tennis team defeated the Rangers from Drew University by a 6-3 score Monday in Florida.
The Fords (1-1) leaped out to a 3-0 start sweeping doubles play then clinched the match over Drew (1-1) with three of six singles victories that followed.
The pairing of Kevin Caulfield and Natty Sergay roared through their Rangers opponents at No. 1 doubles with a fast 8-1 victory. At No. 2, Will Garrett and Hailiu Yang teamed up for an 8-6 win and then Matthew Cebul and Danny Himelstein completed the sweep with a 9-8 (5) victory at No. 3.
In singles play, Caulfield at No. 1, Sergay at No. 4 and Himelstein playing at No. 6 each won their matches to give Haverford its first victory of the spring season.
Spring break action continues on Tuesday for Haverford with an afternoon match-up against Wesleyan (Conn.) University.
