LANCASTER, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team earned a pair of victories in singles play but dropped their Centennial Conference opener, 6-3, to host Franklin & Marshall College Saturday afternoon.
The Fords' Kevin Caulfield took the No. 1 singles match in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-4, and teammate Will Garrett added a point with a 2-1 win (6-4, 0-6, 6-4) at No. 3.
The doubles tandem of Matthew Cebul and Danny Himelstein earned Haverford's first point of the day in a lengthy battle at No. 3 doubles. The pair defeated F&M's Doug Silverstein and James Tunner by a 9-8 (12-10) score to allow the Fords to enter singles play down only 2-1 to the host Dips.
The loss puts Haverford's overall record at 3-2 and at 0-1 in the conference while F&M improves to 4-2 and 1-0.
