SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team lost its 2010 season opening match to Oberlin College, 6-3, Sunday afternoon at Swarthmore College. Oberlin, who lost to Swarthmore in the morning, won two doubles matches and four singles matches in straight sets.
At the No. 2 spot, Helen Fisun and Jaclyn Porter picked up Haverford's (0-1) only doubles point by defeating Julie Christensen and Brie White-Dzuro, 9-8, taking the tiebreaker, 7-4.
The Yeowomen won at Nos. 1 and 3 singles to take a commanding, 3-0, lead. Fisun gave the Fords a point with her 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Preeya Shah clinched the victory for Oberlin (4-4), defeating Fumiko Shogase (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 4 spot. Haverford's other victory came at No. 6 where Porter won (6-3, 6-0) in straight sets.
The Fords will not be in action again until Monday, Mar. 8 when they open their Spring Break trip in Orlando, Fla. against Drew University at noon.
