HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team won for the second time this season by posting their second consecutive shutout with Saturday afternoon's 2-0 victory over Curry (Mass.) College at Walton Field.
The win followed Cabrini College's 3-2 victory over Moravian College in the Jimmy Mills Tournament opener.
The Fords (2-1-0) scored a goal in each half while the defense and goalkeeper Jamey Applegate held the Colonels (2-1-1) scoreless on just four shots on goals and seven shots overall in Curry's first loss of the season.
In the game's 32nd minute, David Restrepo gave the Fords the only goal they would need on the day with a picture-perfect header off a free kick from the right side by Matt Gorski.
Chris Dioguardi added what proved to be an insurance goal in the 62nd minute off a feed from Tyler Freeman that Dioguardi was able to pound into the center of the net behind Curry keeper Brian Newsome.
The last time the Fords registered two shutout victories in a row was in the 2005 season when they began the schedule with 3-0, 3-0 and 4-0 wins. Haverford, if they hope to match that streak, will have to keep Moravian (0-2-2) off the scoreboard on Sunday in the 3:30 p.m. game of day two of the Jimmy Mills tourney. Curry and Cabrini (4-1-0) square off at 1 p.m.
