Moravian gets by men's soccer 1-0 on late goal

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Blake Ritchey's goal in the 72nd minutes gave Moravian College a 1-0 victory over the Haverford College men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon in the second day of the Jimmy Mills Tournament. There were ample opportunities to score on both sides, but it came down to one shot that made the difference.

Both teams came out of the gate playing aggressive on offense. Haverford (2-2) attempted seven shots in the opening half while Moravian (1-2-2) kept Fords' goalkeeper Jamey Applegate busy with five shots all on goal. The Greyhounds Taylor Molinaro had a chance to get his team on the board in the 25th minute when he made his way past a Haverford defender on the right side, but his shot from the six yard line sailed wide.

In the second half Moravian outshot the Fords, 9-6, but HC took three corner kicks to none for the Greyhounds. With time winding down in regulation Ritchey broke the stalemate with a shot from 18 yards out that found the top left corner of the goal.

Haverford had its chances to tie the score, but could not convert. In the 89th minute Max Stossel got off a shot from the left side just inside the box, but it missed wide.
