Drew Hargrave enters her 11th season as head coach of Haverford College volleyball team in 2026. Since being named head coach prior to the 2016 season, Hargrave has guided the Fords to a 145-104Â record and six appearances in the Centennial Conference Tournament.
Haverford concluded the 2025 season with a 19-9 record, marking the program's most wins since the 2021 team finished 24-6. The Fords posted a 7-3 conference record, highlighted by a victory over No. 7 Johns Hopkins on Senior Day and a home sweep of rival Swarthmore. The Fords also hosted the first round of the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time since 2019 and advanced to the conference semifinals for the first time since 2021.
Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year Elizabeth Cella was named an All-America Honorable Mention mention following the campaign, the 13th in program history. Cella is the first rookie to garner the honor since Juliet Young in 2021. She was one of just 11 first-year student-athletes to earn All-America honors.
In 2022, sophomore middle blocker Taylor Jones became Haverford’s second consecutive AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, earning the 12th All-America plaudit in program history after also earning Centennial Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
The Yorba Linda, Calif. product earned her second All-Centennial Conference nod in as many seasons after leading the conference in hitting percentage (.387), and finishing second in blocks per set (0.99) and third in total blocks (86). Haverford's primary blocker finished the season ranked 17th in Division III for hitting percentage, and 47th in blocks per set. Jones' .387 hitting percentage was also the second-best all-time in Haverford program history.
Volleyball earned its sixth appearance in the NCAA tournament and first since the 2014 season in 2021, taking an at-large selection after reaching the Centennial Conference Championship.Â
The 2021 season saw Hargrave take home the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year Award, becoming the first leader of the Haverford program to earn that award since Amy Bergin in 2008. Hargrave guided the Fords to a 24-6 record overall, and a 9-1 conference mark as the Fords advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a victory over UMass-Boston in the opening round of action in Cambridge, Mass.Â
The squad posted its best record since the 2009 campaign, while first-year Juliet Young was named AVCA honorable mention All-America following the season.Â
The 2019 season saw the Fords compile a 22-9 record and host the first round matchup in the Centennial Conference Tournament. Hargrave helped mentor Sara Matsumura ’20 to AVCA honorable mention All-America accolades while the senior captain was also a recipient of Haverford’s Gregory Kannerstein ’63 Award and was a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.
During Hargrave’s time with the Fords, Haverford players have combined for 17 All-Centennial Conference accolades on the court and 47 selections to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. Haverford has also earned the AVCA Team Academic Award every year under her guidance.
Prior to Haverford, Hargrave spent three years as an assistant coach at Smith College, where she was responsible for all aspects of the volleyball program, including on-court instruction, scouting, and recruiting. At Smith, Hargrave earned her Master of Science in exercise and sports studies while helping the Pioneers to Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England championship match and a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NE WMAC) team sportsmanship award. She coached five NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selections.
As a player, Hargrave was an NCAA Division III National Champion and three-time All-American during her decorated career at Washington University in St. Louis. In addition to a national championship, her team won 63 consecutive sets, setting a new NCAA record. The standout outside hitter and team captain was also named the D3VB National Player of the Week. Upon graduation, she received the University’s A. Gwendolyn Drew Award presented to the most distinguished female scholar-athlete.
A USA Volleyball certified referee, Hargrave has also served as head coach and assistant coach of the Pioneer Valley volleyball club and as an assistant coach at Team Momentum in St. Louis.
