BALTIMORE, Md. – No. 25 Haverford (7-1-1, 1-1 CC) suffered its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, as Johns Hopkins (6-2-1, 2-0 CC) edged the Fords, 1-0, in Centennial Conference action at Homewood Field.
The result brought an end to Haverford's program-record 28-match unbeaten streak, which stood as the longest active unbeaten run in NCAA Division III men's soccer. The historic stretch dated back to September 2025 and surpassed every previous unbeaten run in Haverford men's soccer history.
The tightly contested matchup featured just a one-shot difference between the two sides, with Johns Hopkins holding a 15-14 edge in attempts. Haverford earned five corner kicks to four for the Blue Jays, but a late first-half goal from Giulian Laudisa ultimately proved to be the difference.
Haverford generated the first dangerous opportunity of the afternoon in the seventh minute. Josh Brown put an attempt toward the top-left corner, forcing Johns Hopkins goalkeeper John Ghanem into an early save. Sho Nadata followed with another effort just 12 seconds later as the Fords applied pressure in the opening stages.
The Scarlet and Black continued to search for the breakthrough, with Aiden Lee sending an attempt high in the 17th minute before Nadata fired wide in the 24th. Charles Sharp followed with an effort of his own in the 29th minute, but the contest remained scoreless.
Johns Hopkins began to create more pressure late in the opening half. Grayson Benson made his first save of the afternoon on Connor Wilkes in the 36th minute, but the Blue Jays eventually broke through at 40:49. Rohan Aggarwal produced a beautiful twisting pass through the Haverford defense and into the path of Laudisa, who collected the service and finished his shot toward the back post to give Johns Hopkins a 1-0 advantage. Wilkes was also credited with an assist on the play.
Haverford came out of halftime searching for an equalizer and generated four shots over the opening nine minutes of the second half. Aaron Park had a pair of opportunities, while Connor Gustafson produced consecutive attempts in the 54th minute as the Fords continued to press forward.
The Blue Jays threatened to add to their advantage midway through the period, but Benson kept Haverford within striking distance. He denied Nate Kim in the 62nd minute before stopping Jason Pan less than three minutes later. Benson later turned away Laudisa in the 69th minute to keep the deficit at one.
Haverford mounted another push over the final 20 minutes. Sharp generated an attempt in the 75th minute before Brown forced Ghanem into his second save of the afternoon moments later. Gustafson sent another shot wide in the 78th as the Fords continued to search for the tying tally.
The Fords produced one final opportunity with just 17 seconds remaining. Thomas Vanni put an attempt on frame, but Ghanem made the save to preserve the 1-0 result for Johns Hopkins.
Johns Hopkins finished with a narrow 15-14 advantage in shots, while Haverford held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Brown put both of his attempts on target, while Gustafson led the Fords with four total shots. Benson finished with four saves, while Ghanem made three stops to record the shutout.
The Fords continue Centennial Conference play Wednesday, Sept. 30, traveling to Collegeville, Pa., for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Ursinus.
