Men's Soccer Rolls Past Delaware Valley, Extends Unbeaten Streak to 26

HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College men's soccer team continued its historic unbeaten run Tuesday afternoon, using three second-half goals to pull away from Delaware Valley for a 4-0 victory.

The Fords improved to 5-0-1 on the season while extending their program-record unbeaten streak to 26 consecutive matches. Haverford entered the contest with the longest active unbeaten streak in NCAA Division III men's soccer and added another result to the historic run with its fourth consecutive clean sheet.

Thomas Vanni, Aiden Lee, Charles Sharp and Aidan Wong all found the back of the net, while Lee also added an assist to finish with three points. Haverford controlled the attacking numbers with a 22-8 advantage in shots and a 10-1 edge in shots on goal.

The Scarlet and Black established control early, producing five of the game's first six shots. Josh Brown forced Delaware Valley goalkeeper Aiden Lane into a save in the seventh minute before Haverford continued to threaten through Sharp, Austin Branch and Lee.

The breakthrough arrived in the 16th minute on a highlight-reel connection between Lee and Vanni. Lee delivered a teasing cross toward the back post, where Vanni met the service in mid-air and struck a left-footed volley into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Haverford advantage.

Haverford continued to push for more before halftime. Sharp tested Lane in the 22nd minute, while Brown later sent a header high and Sharp had another attempt blocked. The Fords carried the 1-0 advantage into the break after outshooting the Aggies, 11-2, over the opening 45 minutes.

Delaware Valley generated more pressure early in the second half, but the Haverford back line remained composed before the Fords doubled their advantage just shy of the hour mark. Parker Castro swung a ball into the middle of the box, where Lee connected with the service and finished at 59:49 for his first goal of the season and a 2-0 Haverford lead. The tally completed a three-point afternoon for Lee after his assist on Vanni's opening goal.

The Aggies produced their lone shot on goal in the 66th minute, when Grayson Benson turned aside an attempt from Dylan Cochran to preserve the clean sheet. Haverford responded by adding another goal less than seven minutes later.

The third tally came in spectacular fashion. Aaron Park lofted a ball into the box toward Sharp, who improvised in mid-air, redirecting the service with a backheel past Lane and into the back of the net at 71:51. The highlight-reel finish was Sharp's team-leading fifth goal of the season and stretched the Haverford advantage to 3-0. Sharp finished the afternoon with four shots, putting two on target, and has now scored three goals over Haverford's last two contests.

The Fords continued to create chances down the stretch, with Vanni, Branch, Brown and Wong each testing Lane. Haverford put the finishing touches on the victory with just over a minute remaining, as Aidan Lacy delivered a perfectly placed long ball into the path of Wong. Wong collected the service on his right foot before beating Lane at 88:58 for his first goal of the season, completing the 4-0 triumph.

Haverford received contributions throughout the lineup, with four different goal scorers and four different players recording assists. Sharp, Vanni and Brown each registered four shots, while Lee contributed a goal and an assist. The Fords also held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Benson needed just one save to secure his fourth consecutive clean sheet and fifth team shutout through Haverford's first six matches. The Fords have conceded just one goal through 540 minutes this season while outscoring their opponents, 16-1.

Haverford now turns its attention to Centennial Conference play, welcoming Gettysburg to Walton Field on Saturday, Sept. 19.
