HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College softball team (19-5, 6-2 CC) picked up a sweep over Centennial Conference foe Washington College (7-21, 2-6 CC) on Tuesday afternoon at Class of '95 Field. The Fords combined for 25 hits and three home runs, outscoring the Shorewomen 20–2 in two dominant victories. The Scarlet and Black have continued their incredible start to the season, winning their most games since 2023, when they recorded 17 victories.
The matchup with the Shorewomen also served as the Strong Girls United Game, supporting a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower girls and women in sports to be confident and resilient through mentorship and mental health resources.
Haverford 12, Washington College 1 (5 innings)
Zoe Friedman led the offensive charge with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double, her first-career home run, and a career-high five RBI, while Kamaha'o Bode added a 2-for-3 day with a home run and RBI. Shelby Preisser contributed two RBI at the plate and earned the win in the circle, tossing four innings with six strikeouts. Sarah Fan and Jocelyn Leal each recorded two hits, with Fan scoring twice and Leal driving in a run. Preisser controlled the game in the circle, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six across four innings.
Haverford struck first in the third inning as Bode launched a solo home run, her first home run of the season, to push the lead to 1–0. Later in the frame, Kyra Van Denburgh reached on a fielder's choice as Fan came around to score on a throwing error, extending the advantage to 2–0.
Washington College answered in the fourth, as Grace Allen delivered an RBI single to plate Gracelyn Goforth and trim the deficit to 2–1.
The Fords responded emphatically in the bottom half with a seven-run outburst. Friedman started the rally with a two-run double to score Sapirstein and Faruol, pushing the lead to 4–1. Preisser followed with a two-run single to extend the margin to 6–1, before Leal added an RBI single to make it 7–1. Litchfield then reached on an error to bring in another run, stretching the lead to 8–1, and Sapirstein added a sacrifice fly to push the advantage to 9–1. Friedman capped the inning with a three-run home run to left, the first of her collegiate career, extending the lead to 12–1.
Kaleigh Bodak then closed out the contest with a scoreless fifth inning to secure the run-rule victory.
Haverford 8, Washington College 1
Zoe Friedman once again paced the offense with a 2-for-3 effort, including a double and two RBI, while Addie Sapirstein added two hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Kamaha'o Bode continued her strong day with a 2-for-3 performance, including a home run, and Kyra Van Denburgh and Lauren Martin each recorded two hits. In the circle, Kaleigh Bodak, Clarissa Smith, and Anna Murphy combined to allow just one run on four hits across seven innings, with Smith earning the win after three scoreless frames.
Haverford jumped out to an early lead in the second inning, beginning with a Friedman RBI double to push the lead to 1–0. Preisser followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the advantage to 2–0, before Leal added an RBI single to make it 3–0.
The Fords added on in the third inning as Sapirstein grounded out to bring home Van Denburgh, stretching the lead to 4–0.
Washington College broke through in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Emma Trainer, that scored Julia Weglarz, trimming the deficit to 4–1.
Haverford quickly responded in the bottom half, as Bode launched a solo home run, her second of the day, to push the lead to 5–1.
The Fords added insurance in the fifth inning, beginning with an RBI single from Sapirstein to extend the lead to 6–1. Friedman followed with an RBI single to make it 7–1, before Preisser brought home another run on a fielder's choice to cap the scoring at 8–1.
From there Smith and Anna Murphy shut the door on the visitors in the sixth and seventh innings, to preserve the victory for the Scarlet and Black.
Haverford will return to non-conference action for its next matchup, traveling to Aston, Pa., for a two-game series against the Neumann Knights on Thursday, April 9, with first pitch of game one slated for 3 p.m.
