HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (8-7, 2-5 CC) fell in heartbreaking fashion to No. 11 Dickinson (13-2, 6-1 CC), 8–7, Saturday afternoon on Swan Field. Prior to the game, the Fords honored their seven seniors with a Senior Day ceremony, recognizing their commitment over the past four seasons. Haverford jumped out to an early 2–0 lead in the first quarter but was answered by a Dickinson surge, including a pivotal four-goal third quarter. The Fords won 14-of-19 faceoffs and held a 33–25 advantage in ground balls, but a late Red Devils extra-man goal proved to be the difference.
Will Weinstein led the Haverford offense with three goals on three shots on goal, while Nick Snyder added two goals on four shots, with three on target. Philip Passalaqua contributed a goal and an assist on three shots. Chris O'Connor controlled the faceoff X, winning 13-of-18 draws while leading the hosts with eight ground balls.
Weinstein opened the scoring at 10:26 of the first quarter to give Haverford an early lead. Dickinson responded with goals from Ben Monroe and Luke Whalen before Preston Boyd put the Red Devils ahead 3–1 with 8:25 remaining in the opening stanza. Weinstein struck again off a Charlie Vaccaro assist to bring the Fords within one, 3–2, after one quarter of play.
The second quarter was defined by defense, as Reid Tietjen tied the game at 3–3 off a Passalaqua assist. With the goal, Tietjen moved into ninth all-time in program history with 111 career goals. Mac Broaddus anchored the defensive effort with several key saves, including a stop on Landen Hyatt just before halftime. Both teams traded possessions in a physical, turnover-heavy frame, and the game remained tied 3–3 at the halftime break.
Dickinson took control in the third quarter, opening with a goal from Drew Stark before adding scores from Boyd, Hyatt, and Caleb Oliver to build a 7–3 advantage at the 9:01 mark. Haverford answered with a Snyder goal off a Tietjen assist to make it a 7–4 game with 8:10 left in the third quarter. With the assist, Tietjen moved into sixth all-time in program history with 187 points. Passalaqua added a goal at the 4:50 mark to cut into the deficit, but the Red Devils carried a 7–5 lead into the fourth.
The Fords battled back early in the final quarter, as Snyder scored off the opening possession to make it 7–6. Weinstein then tied the game at 7–7 off a Turner Elliott assist with 2:55 remaining. With 42 seconds left, Tietjen appeared to have scored the potential game-winner, but after further discussion, officials ruled a crease violation, negating the goal and awarding Dickinson a man-up opportunity. The Red Devils capitalized in the closing seconds, as Monroe finished off a Taner Marusa assist to secure the 8–7 win.
Haverford returns to action on Saturday, April 25, traveling to Swarthmore for a 3 p.m. matchup.
