ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The No. 23 Haverford College women's lacrosse team (9-5, 4-1 CC) rolled past (RV) Muhlenberg (10-4, 1-4 CC) by a 17–5 final on Wednesday afternoon at Jeff Morris Field. The Scarlet and Black controlled the action from the opening draw, scoring in every quarter, including five goals in both the first and fourth, while the Mules were limited to just five tallies.
Mikelle Smith led the offensive charge with a career-high four goals and two assists, placing all four shots on goal into the back of the net. Brooke Epstein added four goals and an assist, while Daniela Martini dished out a team-high four assists, moving into second all-time in program history with 94 career helpers. Defensively, Louisa Coughlin and Finley Jordan each caused two turnovers, while Lily Provost collected a team-high four ground balls. Kalli Mullen added a career-best five ground balls, and Shaina Lewis earned the win with seven saves.
Haverford wasted little time taking control, as Natalie Frekko opened the scoring just 43 seconds in off a feed from Martini. Muhlenberg answered with a goal from Alyssa Hartnett to even the score at 1–1, but the Fords quickly responded. Epstein converted off an assist from Sophie Jaffe to make it 2–1 before Frekko struck again, this time set up by Bella Gattuso, extending the lead to 3–1. Smith closed the quarter with back-to-back goals at 3:20 and 1:57, giving Haverford a commanding 5–1 advantage after one.
The Mules opened the second quarter with a player-up goal from Taylor Dzama, assisted by Jane Sorger, to cut the deficit to 5–2. The Scarlet and Black answered immediately, as Gattuso finished a pass from Martini at 11:46, followed by a Jaffe tally at 10:26, also assisted by Martini, pushing the lead to 7–2. Gattuso added another at 7:29 off a feed from Smith as Haverford maintained control, taking an 8–2 lead into halftime.
Muhlenberg found the net early in the third with a free position goal from Dzama at 8:19, but the Fords responded with a decisive run. Coughlin got on the board, followed by a free position finish from Epstein at 6:31 to make it a 10-3 contest. Natalie Bole added another at 4:45 off an assist from Epstein, and Smith capped the quarter with a goal in the final 32 seconds as Haverford extended its lead to 12–3.
The Scarlet and Black put the game away in the fourth, outscoring Muhlenberg 5–2. Kylie McNamara opened the quarter with a goal at 14:16 off a pass from Martini before Smith converted on a free position opportunity. Jordan added her first goal of the season at 7:22, assisted by Grace Kail, while Epstein tallied twice, including a free position goal at 1:35. The Mules received goals from Emma Youngling and Annalisa Bio, but Haverford's defense, backed by saves from Lewis and Ella Salvador, preserved the comfortable margin.
The Fords return to action on Saturday, April 18, hosting Dickinson on Swan Field for Senior Day. Opening draw is set for 12 p.m.
