HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 51 Haverford College men's tennis team celebrated Play with Pride Day with a victory in dominant fashion Tuesday, securing a 7-0 triumph over No. 49 Washington College at Bramall Courts.
The win keeps the Fords undefeated in Centennial Conference play, improving their league record to 5-0 as they pulled to 7-10 overall Washington College is now 8-9 overall and 3-3 in Centennial Conference play.
Haverford set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the inaugural point of the afternoon. The No. 2 pairing of Niki Lavu and Teo Bortan provided the first spark with a 6-3 win over Oskar Wroblewski and Maxi Synnestvedt. Shortly after, Marko Arboleda and Robbie Vazquez clinched the doubles point at the top flight with a 6-2 victory against Petter Storberg and Demir Isiker. Caden Hsia and Stefan Johnson completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles by holding off Tichi Chialva and Kohl Perkins in a competitive 7-5 set.
The Fords then secured the singles sweep with wins across the lineup, as Marko Arboleda set the tone with a decisive 6-2, 6-0 victory over Maxi Synnestvedt at No. 2. Caden Hsia followed shortly after, dispatching Oskar Wroblewski, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.
Robbie Vazquez then delivered the clinch with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Petter Storberg in the No. 4 slot, before Teo Bortan added a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Demir Isiker at No. 3.
At the top of the lineup, Niki Lavu outlasted Tichi Chialva in a tightly contested battle, 6-2, 6-7 (9-11), 1-0 (10-5 superbreaker), while Stefan Johnson closed out the sweep with a gritty three-set victory over Kohl Perkins, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (13-11 superbreaker), at No. 5.
With the victory over the Shoremen now in hand, Haverford will gear up for a crucial Centennial Conference clash at Swarthmore, with major seeding implications on the line Friday, April 17. First serve against the No. 12 Garnet is slated for 3 p.m. at the Faulkner Courts.
