Cricket Sweeps the Weekend with Wins over Germantown CC, Princeton

Match Report: Haverford vs. Germantown Cricket Club

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford Cricket returned to Cope Field on Saturday, April 11, kicking off a doubleheader weekend against a long-standing fixture: Germantown Cricket Club.

Winning the toss, Haverford chose to bat, with sophomores Agastya Singh and Nihaal Kochar opening the innings. The pair started steadily, putting on 24 runs in the first five overs before an unfortunate run-out saw Singh depart.

In came junior Sanil Kagalwala, and what followed was the defining passage of the match.

Kagalwala and Kochar built a partnership that completely shifted the game's momentum. Blending patience with power, the pair added a commanding 142 runs, striking three towering sixes and eight boundaries between them. Kochar anchored the innings beautifully, remaining at the crease from start to finish for a composed 64, while Kagalwala explosive 65 edged him ahead as the top scorer. Haverford closed at a formidable 166 in 25 overs.

Chasing 167, Germantown knew the task was steep, but not impossible. Haverford, however, made sure to apply pressure early. The breakthrough came in just the third over, with Kagalwala producing a sharp direct hit to run out one of Germantown's openers. It was the start of what would be an exceptional all-around performance from the junior.

From there, the bowlers tightened their grip. Kochar, Captain Ishpuneet Singh, Kagalwala, and Vivaan Hingad kept the runs in check, making strike rotation difficult. The second wicket followed soon after, with Kagalwala striking again, this time having the other opener caught behind by Singh.

Then came a decisive shift in momentum.

Over the next few overs, Haverford's discipline with the ball and energy in the field began to tell. Hingad picked up two well-earned wickets, breaking through just as Germantown looked to settle into their chase. The fielding stayed sharp and encouraging, with every stop, every throw, and every catch adding to the pressure in a positive way.

Sophomore Calder Rahn made the most of his opportunity with the ball, claiming a wicket of his own (caught by Hingad), while Kagalwala capped off an already outstanding day by adding another to his tally.

Germantown continued to play their shots and compete hard, but Haverford's consistency across overs made it difficult to build the partnerships they needed. The game gradually tilted in Haverford's favor, not through a single moment, but through sustained, collective effort.

By the final over, the equation had become impossible: Germantown needed 42 runs off six balls. With the result all but sealed, Rahn was handed the ball, and delivered a moment to remember. He picked up two more wickets in the over, completing a hat-trick, marking a true breakthrough performance with the ball.

Germantown fell short by 48 runs, and Haverford secured a comprehensive victory.

It was a near-complete performance from the Fords: disciplined with the ball, composed with the bat, and sharp in the field. Just as importantly, the team maintained focus and energy throughout, even from a position of strength.

As always, Germantown Cricket Club brought not just competition, but camaraderie and sportsmanship to Cope Field. It was a beautiful day for cricket and a confidence-boosting result for Haverford.

Match Report: Haverford vs. Princeton

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Sunday, April 12, brought ideal conditions for cricket: sunny skies, a warm breeze, and Haverford's second match of a double-header weekend, once again against Princeton. Coming into the game with momentum from the previous day, the Fords were determined to maintain their perfect record against the opposition. Captain Ishpuneet Singh won yet another toss and chose to bat, sending out familiar openers: sophomores Agastya Singh and Nihaal Kochar. The pair started confidently, putting on 37 runs in the six-over powerplay, with Kochar looking particularly fluent, striking three boundaries early on.

However, an unfortunate miscommunication led to Kochar's run-out in just the seventh over. It was a disappointing moment given his strong start, and he departed for 25 off 23 balls.

Captain Ishpuneet Singh then promoted himself to number three, and what followed was a composed and controlled partnership with Agastya Singh that anchored the innings. The pair added 92 runs together, rotating strike smartly and keeping the scoreboard moving without unnecessary risk. Haverford finished at 135 in 20 overs, built around Agastya's well-constructed 55, his first half-century of the spring season, and a valuable 44 from Ishpuneet. It was an innings defined by control, patience, and understanding of conditions.

A target of 135 was just defendable at Cope Field. The second innings began with intent. As usual, Kochar and Ishpuneet Singh opened the bowling, and the breakthrough came early in the second over, with Kagalwala taking a sharp catch off Ishpuneet's bowling.

From there, the game shifted quickly.

What followed was a sustained spell of control from the bowling unit. Wickets fell in steady succession, and the energy in the field grew with each breakthrough. The field stayed sharp and fully switched on, backing every bowler, cutting off runs, and keeping the intensity high throughout.

Captain Ishpuneet added two more wickets to his tally, as did sophomore Hingad, who continued his impressive rise as a bowler this season, striking at crucial moments. Kochar contributed brilliantly in the field with three catches, underlining his all-around impact on the day. Kagalwala also made his mark with the ball, picking up two wickets, including the dismissal of Princeton's top scorer, along with a caught-and-bowled.

By the time the score reached 33/7 after nine overs, the outcome felt increasingly out of reach for Princeton. However, the Fords continued with full intensity, playing every ball as though the match was still in balance.

First-year Anish More was given a spell and earned his first-ever match wicket, a memorable milestone in his early Haverford career. Junior Rohan Sarma also joined the wicket column, supported again by Kochar's sharp fielding.

At 49/9 after 16 overs, the innings was on its last thread. It became less a question of possibility and more of timing. The end came soon after, a run-out from More bringing the match to a close.

And that was it. Another strong performance against Princeton, and another win secured. Across both innings, the story was consistency: partnerships that set platforms, and a bowling unit that refused to release pressure. It was a weekend defined by control, discipline, and the collective willingness to stay switched on from first ball to last.

Haverford walked away not just with a win, but with reinforcement of the standards they are building this season. The Fords return to action on Friday, April 17 to begin a three-match weekend. Up first is Wanderers Cricket Club (2 p.m.).
