Women's Tennis Drops Sunday Matinee to Division I Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team (8-7) faced a challenging non-conference test on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Division I Villanova (11-9) at the Villanova Tennis Complex.

The Wildcats seized early control of the match by sweeping all three doubles contests to claim the opening point. At No. 1 doubles, the pairing of Abhi Menon and Mallika Reddy fell to Emi Callahan and Maggie Gehrig by a 6-1 score. Villanova added another 6-1 win at No. 2, where Sophie Capone and Sriya Krishnan were defeated by Lauren Monti and Jenna Stevens. Maddy Kayyali and Erika Phanord rounded out doubles play, dropping a 6-2 decision to Riley Cicero and Savie Seebald at the third flight.

In singles action, Haverford battled throughout the lineup against a deep Villanova squad. Aarti Prochnow competed at the top flight, falling 6-0 before retiring. At No. 2, Reddy was edged by Stevens, 6-0, 6-0. Capone dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Alina Kornyeva at the third position.

Menon delivered one of the Fords' strongest individual performances of the afternoon at No. 4 singles, pushing her opponent in a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Cicero.

Phanord also showed resilience at the fifth spot, earning four games in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat against Seebald. Kayyali completed the singles lineup, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Callahan at No. 6.

Despite the final scoreline, the Fords found competitive moments throughout singles play, particularly in the middle of the lineup, where extended games highlighted their ability to stay engaged against tough Division I opposition.

Haverford returns to action with a busy week ahead, taking on three matches. The Fords host Ursinus on Wednesday (4 p.m.) while another group travels to TCNJ for a 4 p.m. start that same afternoon. Haverford then heads back to Villanova on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup with Denison.
