HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team (4-1) secured a commanding 16-4 victory over Stockton (3-3) on Saturday morning at Swan Field. The Scarlet and Black seized control early, scoring seven goals in the opening quarter before adding five more in the second. The Fords were equally strong on the defensive end, allowing just four goals while forcing 17 turnovers and recording 10 caused turnovers. The Ospreys managed to score in each quarter but could not recover from Haverford's early surge.
Daniela Martini and Mikelle Smith powered the offense with matching seven-point performances, as Martini tallied four goals and three assists while Smith dished out six assists and added a goal. Brooke Epstein also had a strong outing, recording three goals and an assist while converting all three of her shots on goal. Sophie Jaffe added four goals of her own, placing eight of her nine shots on target, while Natalie Bole netted the game-winning goal on her lone shot on goal. Defensively, Lily Provost caused three turnovers and gathered two ground balls, while Ella Salvador and Shaina Lewis split time in goal, making five saves each.
Madison Macgillivray led Stockton with three goals, converting all three of her shots on target. Aubrey Giordano contributed a goal and an assist while placing two of her three shots on goal. Isabella Marinello was active offensively for the Ospreys, firing six shots and placing four on target. In goal, Abbey Schaeffer made 11 saves while facing 23 shots.
The Fords established control early as Martini opened the scoring at 14:23 off an assist from Louisa Coughlin. Haverford continued its fast start with goals from Jaffe and Smith to build a 3-0 advantage. Martini struck again at 8:52, set up by Smith, prompting a Stockton timeout. The Scarlet and Black continued to press, as Bole converted a free-position opportunity at 7:46 before Martini added a man-up tally assisted by Coughlin. Stockton broke through with a free-position goal from Macgillivray at 1:59, but Haverford answered late in the period when Natalie Frekko scored with 21 seconds remaining off a feed from Smith to give the hosts a 7-1 lead after one.
The Scarlet and Black extended their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring the Ospreys 5-1. Jaffe opened the scoring at 14:43 on an assist from Martini and added another at 11:16, this time off a feed from Smith. Martini and Kylie McNamara also found the net during the run, with McNamara scoring twice in the quarter, including an unassisted tally at 2:35. Macgillivray recorded the lone Stockton goal of the period on a player-up opportunity at 3:23, but the Fords still carried a commanding 12-2 lead into halftime.
Jaffe opened the third-quarter scoring for Haverford with a goal assisted by Martini at 11:14. Macgillivray answered for Stockton at 7:18, but the Fords maintained control as their defense continued to disrupt the Ospreys' attack. Kiri Jensen caused a key turnover during the stretch, and Lewis made several important saves after entering in goal. Epstein later capitalized on another Martini assist, scoring at 5:29 to extend the Haverford lead to 14-3 heading into the final quarter.
Stockton added a player-up goal from Giordano at 8:32 in the fourth, but the Scarlet and Black quickly responded. Epstein scored twice in the frame, including a tally at 11:41 and another at 6:03 off an assist from Smith. Haverford's defense remained firm down the stretch, preserving the 16-4 victory over the Ospreys.
The Fords will next travel to face Christopher Newport on Wednesday, March 11. Opening draw in Newport News, Virginia, is scheduled for 4 p.m.
