Women's Basketball Overpowered by McDaniel, 57-37

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Haverford women's basketball (9-12, 1-10 CC) fell to McDaniel (17-4, 6-4 CC) by a score of 57-37 in a Centennial Conference matchup at Calvin J. Gooding '84 Arena. Unable to gain a lead throughout the contest, the Fords were limited to 18 points in the paint and shot 14-for-54 from the field. The Green Terror capitalized with a strong defensive performance, forcing 13 turnovers and converting them into 12 points.

Caroline Orza recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, adding two steals for the Scarlet and Black, her eighth double-double of the season. Audrey Jakway led the team in scoring with 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Brianna Feifer contributed defensively with two steals and two assists.

Teya McConnaha paced McDaniel with 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting, including three three-pointers, while also grabbing 14 rebounds. Raegan Lenz added eight points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks for the Green Terror. Lauren Cavoli finished with four assists and two steals, while Riley Waite chipped in five points and two steals.

McDaniel opened the game with an early surge, as Cavoli scored a layup just 52 seconds into the first quarter. A McConnaha three-pointer at the 7:30 mark extended the Green Terror's lead to 7-0 before Jakway got Haverford on the board with a layup at 7:09. McDaniel continued to control the tempo, pushing the margin to 12-2 following a Payton Cramer three-pointer at 3:53. Orza answered with an and-one at 2:54 to cut the deficit to 12-6, and Jakway later added two free throws, but the Green Terror closed the quarter on a jumper by Shae Mercer to take a 17-10 lead after one.

The Green Terror capitalized on early turnovers by the Fords, converting three miscues into points while shooting 7-for-19 from the field in the opening period. Haverford stayed within reach by going 4-for-5 at the free throw line but struggled to find consistency offensively.

The Scarlet and Black opened the second quarter with strong defensive energy, highlighted by a block from Alyssa Aslam, but McDaniel quickly regained momentum. Cavoli knocked down a three-pointer at 7:48 to extend the lead to 20-10. Orza responded with a layup at 6:52, followed by Jakway's assisted layup from Mercer to narrow the gap to 20-14. McConnaha then sparked a key run with a layup at 4:02 and a fast-break three-pointer at 3:34, pushing the Green Terror's advantage to 27-14. Orza continued to battle inside, but McDaniel closed the half strong to take a 31-17 lead into the break.

McDaniel outscored Haverford 14-7 in the second quarter, converting seven points off turnovers while recording four steals and two blocks. The Green Terror also held a slight rebounding edge, 13-11, during the period.

Jakway jump-started the Fords in the third quarter with a layup at 8:32 and added another at 7:27, but the Green Terror responded with steady offense. McConnaha scored seven points in the quarter, including a three-pointer at the 7:00 mark, as McDaniel maintained control. Orza recorded a steal at 5:28, while Georgia Koff-Gilmore and Mercer each added baskets late in the period. McDaniel outscored the Scarlet and Black 13-9 in the quarter and led 44-26 entering the final frame.

Haverford opened the fourth quarter with renewed defensive pressure, as Jakway converted a jumper following a steal by Koff-Gilmore. Orza added both a layup and a three-pointer early in the period, while the Fords forced five turnovers overall in the quarter. Despite the effort, McDaniel answered with timely baskets, including a three-pointer by Waite at 5:22, and sealed the game with a late layup by Kate Roberts. The Green Terror won the final period 13-11 to secure the 57-37 victory.

The Scarlet and Black forced five turnovers in the fourth quarter but struggled offensively, shooting 4-for-18 from the field. McDaniel controlled the glass with 11 defensive rebounds in the final period to preserve the lead.

Haverford returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11, hosting Bryn Mawr at Gooding '84 Arena on Play with Pride. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
