LANCASTER, Pa. — The Haverford College women's track & field team sits in fifth place with 32 points after day one of the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships inside the Schnader Field House on the campus of Franklin & Marshall. The opening day was highlighted by several strong performances, including a record-breaking effort in the 4x800-meter relay.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Carly Priest, Savannah Shaw, Devyn Telleen, and Anastasia Jaycobs delivered one of the top moments of the meet, crossing the line in 9:32.87. The resounding time surpassed the previous school record of 9:35.24, set on February 26, 2006, by Anastasia Mukhina, Brittany Massare, Darian Lunne, and current head coach Annick Lamar. Originally, the quartet placed second and earned eight points in the standings. However, following a protest, first-place finisher Johns Hopkins was disqualified, elevating the Fords to first place and awarding them 10 team points.
In the field events, first-year Taniya Denson placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing 3.32 meters (10 feet, 10.75 inches) to earn five team points. Senior Sarah Wilcher finished fifth in the weight throw with a seasonal-best mark of 13.97 meters (45 feet, 10.00 inches), adding four points, while junior Grace Hannigan placed 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.76 meters (32 feet, 0.25 inches).
On the track, junior Nadine Tang placed 15th in the 60-meter prelims with a seasonal-best time of 8.18, while sophomore Zofi Sanders finished 28th in 8.81. In the 60-meter hurdles prelims, Beatrice Di Girolamo placed ninth with a time of 10.06.
In the 5,000 meters, junior Grace Chen finished ninth in 19:29.41, while senior Audrey Carter placed 17th with a personal-best time of 20:16.85.
Di Girolamo and Adriana Rogow represented the Fords in the indoor pentathlon. Di Girolamo placed sixth overall with 2,686 points, surpassing her previous total of 2,529, which ranked second-best in program history. Rogow finished 10th overall with 1,841 points. Individually, Di Girolamo placed second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.86), fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.41 meters (4 feet, 7.50 inches), fifth in the long jump with a mark of 4.68 meters (15 feet, 4.25 inches), fifth in the shot put with a throw of 8.63 meters (28 feet, 3.75 inches), and eighth in the 800 meters with a seasonal-best time of 2:45.51. Rogow placed 10th in the 60-meter hurdles (12.00), ninth in the high jump (1.29 meters / 4 feet, 2.75 inches), 10th in the long jump (3.90 meters / 12 feet, 9.50 inches), 10th in the shot put (5.81 meters / 19 feet, 0.75 inches), and seventh in the 800 meters with a personal-best 2:45.30.
To close out the first day, the 4,000-meter distance medley relay squad of Shaw, Lorelei Middleton, Olivia D'Aulerio, and Jaycobs placed second in 12:23.21, earning eight additional team points while posting the seventh-fastest time in school history. The 4x200-meter relay team of Tang, Emma Casucci, Denson, and Alyssa Berry finished seventh in 1:52.79 to add two more points.
Haverford will return to the Schnader Field House on the campus of Franklin & Marshall for the final day of the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships, with events beginning at 10:30 a.m.
