BOSTON, Mass. – The Haverford College women's track and field team had a busy Saturday, competing at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass., and the Widener Indoor Classic inside the Ott Center in Philadelphia, Pa. First-year Lorelei Middleton highlighted an excellent day for the Fords, breaking the 400-meter record at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational with a resounding time of 57.63.
The Scarlet and Black began the morning inside the Track & Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University. There, Middleton paced Haverford in the 400 meters, racing to a personal-best 57.63 for 22nd place. The time surpassed Olivia D'Aulerio's previous record of 57.96, set on March 2, 2024. D'Aulerio, who also competed in the Invitational, added an 84th-place finish in the 800 meters, running 2:16.18, while Savannah Shaw crossed in 144th at 2:21.49. Anastasia Jaycobs set a personal record in the mile with a time of 5:10.07, finishing 192nd.
The Widener Indoor Classic began on Friday, February 13, in Chester, Pa., with the throwing events, where Sarah Wilcher posted a 28th-place finish in the shot put at 10.20 meters (33 feet, 5.75 inches) and added a 31st-place effort in the weight throw with a mark of 12.50 meters (41 feet, 0.25 inches).
On Saturday, February 14, at the Ott Center, Nadine Tang led the Haverford sprint contingent in the women's 60 meters, placing 29th in 8.31 seconds. In the 60-meter hurdles, Beatrice Di Girolamo posted a 37th-place finish with a time of 10.01.
The middle-distance squad was highlighted by Devyn Telleen, who placed 12th in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:21.33. Carly Priest followed in 21st, also setting a personal best at 2:23.89.
In the mile, Bianca Ortiz led the Scarlet and Black with a season-best 5:42.95 for 47th place. Alice Sappenfield posted a personal-best 10:47.42 in the 3,000 meters for 25th place, followed by Jessie Hausman in 31st at 10:55.
Haverford's field athletes were led by Di Girolamo in the long jump, where her mark of 5.01 meters (16 feet, 5.25 inches) placed her 15th, a season-best that ties her for fifth all-time in Haverford history. Taniya Denson tied her personal-best and school-record mark in the pole vault at 3.20 meters (10 feet, 6 inches) to finish 16th.
The final event of the day was the 4x400-meter relay, where the quartet of Emery Casucci, Maggie Blanford, Tess Greaton, and Anna Berry placed 15th with a time of 4:26.17.
Haverford women's track and field will return to action on Friday, February 20, hosting the Keogh Invitational under the lights of the Alumni Field House. Events are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
