HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team (6-7-3, 1-6-2 CC) honored its seven seniors Saturday afternoon at Walton Field, recognizing Allie Billups, Mia Peifer, Ali Dorrego, Molly Morris, Emma Kirk, Giana Coletti and Sofia Terry in a pregame Senior Day ceremony before dropping a 2-0 decision to visiting Franklin & Marshall (6-4-3, 3-3-2 CC) in Centennial Conference action.
Billups delivered a standout performance in her final regular-season home appearance, matching her season high with 10 saves for the second time this fall. Fellow seniors Kirk and Peifer also made their presence felt offensively, accounting for both of Haverford's shots on goal as the Scarlet and Black battled throughout the afternoon.
Franklin & Marshall applied pressure early, forcing Billups into action just three minutes into the contest. The Haverford goalkeeper turned away Katherine Finnerty's attempt at 2:37 before Emerson McDonald struck the crossbar in the sixth minute.
Billups came up with another stop in the 10th minute, denying Amanda Nemeth as the Diplomats continued to press forward.
Haverford generated its first dangerous opportunity following a corner kick in the 11th minute. Kirk delivered the service into the penalty area, where Peifer directed a header on target at 11:37. Franklin & Marshall goalkeeper Lucy Fleming made the save to keep the contest scoreless.
The visitors continued to create chances, with Billups turning aside a pair of attempts from Ashley Inacio in the 17th and 19th minutes before denying McDonald in the 20th.
Franklin & Marshall eventually broke through in the 23rd minute following a short corner kick. Ellison Errington rose to meet the ensuing service, directing a header off the post before Inacio reacted to the rebound and sent it into the back of the net at 22:30. The goal, Inacio's third of the season, gave the Diplomats a 1-0 advantage, with Errington credited with the assist.
Haverford looked for an immediate response, as Kirk put an attempt on frame just 19 seconds after the opening goal. Fleming was positioned to make the save, preserving the visitors' narrow advantage.
The Scarlet and Black continued to battle through the remainder of the opening half, with Reese Meyers registering a header that was blocked in the 42nd minute.
Despite Franklin & Marshall holding a 15-3 advantage in first-half shots, Billups' five saves helped keep the deficit at just one goal heading into the intermission.
The Diplomats resumed their offensive pressure following halftime, earning a corner kick in the 48th minute before Billups denied Errington's ensuing attempt.
The Haverford goalkeeper continued to stand tall, making consecutive saves against Inacio in the 55th and 56th minutes to keep the Fords within one.
Franklin & Marshall doubled its advantage in the 58th minute following another sequence inside the Haverford penalty area. Errington directed an attempt toward goal that was initially blocked, but the ensuing deflection resulted in an own goal at 57:35, extending the Diplomats' lead to 2-0.
Haverford continued to compete defensively as the visitors searched for additional scoring opportunities. Billups made another stop against Emily Cook in the 71st minute before turning away Lillian Kleiman's attempt in the 83rd.
The Scarlet and Black held firm over the closing minutes, but were unable to generate a second-half shot as Franklin & Marshall secured the conference victory.
Billups finished with 10 saves across 90 minutes, matching her season high while delivering another impressive performance in front of the home crowd on Senior Day. Peifer and Kirk each registered a shot on goal, while Meyers accounted for Haverford's other attempt.
The contest marked the final regular-season home appearance for Haverford's senior class, which was recognized before kickoff for its contributions to the women's soccer program throughout its four years on campus.
