Cold Shooting Stalls Haverford in 60-42 Setback to Dickinson

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Cold shooting proved costly for the Haverford College women's basketball team (9-7, 1-5 CC) as the Fords fell to Dickinson College (10-6, 4-1 CC), 60-42, in a Centennial Conference women's basketball matchup at Gooding Arena on a snowy Saturday.

Haverford struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm, finishing the day shooting below 30 percent from the floor, despite generating defensive pressure that resulted in eight steals and several transition opportunities. The Fords were unable to fully capitalize on Dickinson miscues, however, as prolonged scoring droughts allowed the Red Devils to seize control after the opening quarter.

Caroline Orza led all Haverford scorers with 17 points while posting her sixth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. The senior added three steals. Brianna Feifer was active on the glass with nine rebounds to go along with two steals, while Audrey Jakway contributed eight points and six rebounds. Bri Heafey chipped in six points and two assists.

Addison Cadwell led Dickinson with 14 points, converting 6 of 11 baskets and contributing seven rebounds, one block, and one steal. Mia Chapman matched Cadwell with 14 points, hitting five of 14 from the floor and adding nine rebounds and two steals. Emma Landes bolstered the defense with two steals and four total rebounds while scoring four points for the Red Devils.

Haverford opened the game with energy, jumping out to a 6-2 lead behind strong defensive play and quick ball movement. Alyssa Aslam helped set the tone early with her work on both ends of the floor, including a steal that led to a Heafey fast-break layup in the early goings. Jakway later knocked down a three-pointer in transition midway through the first quarter as the Fords maintained a narrow advantage. Haverford closed the period up 17-14 after holding Dickinson to limited second-chance opportunities.

Momentum shifted in the second quarter as the Fords' shots began to rim out. Dickinson capitalized with a steady scoring run, fueled in part by offensive rebounds. Haverford missed several close-range attempts but stayed within striking distance behind a Jakway layup and an Orza tip-in late in the half. Still, Dickinson carried a 30-21 lead into the break.

The third quarter was the decisive stretch as Dickinson's defense clamped down, limiting Haverford to just five points in the frame. Turnovers and missed open looks stalled the Fords' offense, while the Red Devils converted second chances to extend their lead. Orza and Feifer connected for a late basket to close the quarter, but Haverford trailed 43-26 heading into the final 10 minutes.

The hosts showed resilience in the fourth quarter, opening with a Feifer steal and a quick scoring burst from Orza, who hit a layup and a three-pointer in the first four minutes to fire up the bench. The Fords continued to defend and matched Dickinson basket for basket down the stretch, with Lily Zawisny, making her season debut, adding a late layup in the paint.

Haverford finished the game with advantages in points off turnovers and points in the paint but could not overcome the earlier shooting struggles.

Women's Basketball now returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21, traveling to Muhlenberg College for an 8 p.m. Centennial Conference contest in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
