CARLISLE, Pa. — The Haverford College men's basketball team (6–9, 0–3 CC) fell to Dickinson, 79–68, in a Centennial Conference showdown at the Kline Center. Haverford kept the game close in the first half, trailing by just four at the break. Their bench contributed 25 points, and the team forced 17 turnovers. Dickinson (4–11, 1–2 CC) capitalized on its 25 free-throw attempts to secure the home victory.
Haverford opened the game with a strong start, taking an early 6–0 lead with three-pointers from Adam Strong-Jacobson and Alex George, both assisted by Raja Coleman. Dickinson responded with a 10–3 run, highlighted by Dane Moran's layup at the 18:41 mark, to close the gap. Juan Ruiz's free throws at 12:21 gave Dickinson its first lead, 10–9. The teams exchanged baskets for the remainder of the half, with Matt Mahoney scoring consecutive three-pointers for Dickinson to extend its lead. The margin reached as high as nine points when Red Devils guard Jacob Pichay hit a layup to put the hosts up 26–17 at the 5:59 mark. Throughout the rest of the half, the Fords continued to trim down the deficit, as Haverford's Carter Warren hit a three-pointer with just 33 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 36–32 heading into halftime.
The Scarlet and Black converted 10-of-28 field goals, including four three-pointers, and matched Dickinson at the free-throw line with eight makes. Despite committing 11 personal fouls, the Fords forced nine turnovers from Dickinson, capitalizing on them for six points. The Red Devils' strong rebounding edge, with a 23–14 advantage, contributed to their narrow lead.
Down 41–34, an 8–2 run by Haverford that included a jumper from Raja Coleman, a three by Warren, and a key triple at the 14:15 mark by Seth Anderson made it a one-point game, 43–42. Strong-Jacobson later tied the contest at 43–43 from the free-throw line, and Gaven Marr added a pair of foul shots to pull the Fords within one again at 52–51 with just under 10 minutes remaining. A bucket from Dane Moran and a triple from Joey Dopirak extended the hosts' lead to 57–51 with 8:51 remaining. Dickinson answered with a pivotal run midway through the half, fueled by perimeter shooting and trips to the line, extending the margin to seven. Despite continued efforts from Strong-Jacobson, who scored on a driving layup at the 6:44 mark, and Emmanuel Cheung Hernandez, who finished through contact late, the hosts maintained control down the stretch. A Juan Ruiz layup pushed the Red Devils' lead to 11 points at the 2:38 mark, eventually sealing the 79–68 win.
Strong-Jacobson led the team with 16 points, converting 7-of-8 free throws and collecting seven rebounds. Gaven Marr added 12 points, going 7-for-9 from the free-throw line and matching Strong-Jacobson with seven rebounds. Warren contributed nine points, making all three of his three-point attempts before fouling out. Emmanuel Cheung Hernandez recorded four points, tallied two steals, and added four rebounds.
Moran led Dickinson with 17 points and dominated the boards, collecting 14 rebounds, while also contributing one block and one steal. Ruiz added 12 points and secured 10 rebounds, showing efficiency by hitting 5-of-6 field goals. Edmond contributed 14 points, making 7-of-10 free throws, and added four rebounds and two assists. Pichay was effective from the line, converting 8-of-10 free throws en route to 15 points, along with five rebounds and two assists.
Up next for the Fords, they will host Franklin & Marshall at Gooding '84 Arena on Wednesday, January 21. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. During halftime, the senior student-athletes at Haverford will be honored with a varsity blanket.
