Field Hockey Doubles Up DeSales in Swan Field Shutout

The victory also inched head coach Jackie Cox closer to a career milestone, marking her 149th win on the Haverford sideline. She now sits just one victory away from the 150 plateau.

HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College field hockey team continued its strong start to the season with a 2-0 win over DeSales on Wednesday night at Swan Field. The Fords (6-1) controlled possession, outshooting the Bulldogs (2-6) 23-4, and leaned on a steady defensive performance to record their second shutout of the season.

The victory also inched head coach Jackie Cox closer to a career milestone, marking her 149th win on the Haverford sideline. She now sits just one victory away from the 150 plateau.

Haverford struck first midway through the opening quarter. Off a well-executed penalty corner, junior injector Erica Pardón initiated play before the ball found its way to Holly Vincent, who set up Naomi York for a composed finish in front of cage at 11:25. It was York's fourth goal of the year and a reflection of Haverford's early ability to capitalize on set-piece opportunities.

The Fords maintained heavy pressure in the second quarter, generating five corners and nine total shots in the period. DeSales goalkeeper Alyssa Schlossman kept her side in the contest, turning away attempts from York, Vincent, and Alice Stein. Haverford's back line allowed just one DeSales attempt in the half to preserve the 1-0 advantage at intermission.

The Bulldogs tested Haverford early in the third quarter, earning a penalty corner less than two minutes in, but goalkeeper Steph Ionescu denied Abigail Antipas to maintain the lead. Haverford responded immediately with another wave of offense as Pardón and Vincent peppered shots in the circle, only to be denied by Schlossman's quick reflexes. Despite seven Haverford shots in the frame, the score held steady at 1-0 entering the fourth period.

With DeSales pushing for an equalizer, Haverford's defense tightened further. Ionescu made a key stop on a shot from Jordyne Stong to protect the one-goal margin. In the final minute, the Fords' persistence paid off again on a corner earned after killing off a green card situation. Pardón delivered the insertion, and York cleaned up a deflection in front of the cage at 59:36 for her second tally of the night, sealing the 2-0 win and giving her five goals on the season.

York finished with two goals on seven shots, while Pardón tallied an assist and added five attempts. Vincent also chipped in an assist to go along with four shots. Ionescu earned her second shutout of 2025, stopping both shots she faced.

For DeSales, Schlossman was outstanding in the cage despite the loss, compiling nine saves against relentless pressure from the Fords. Stong and Brynn Balliet registered the Bulldogs' two shots on target, while Alina Culver added a defensive save for the visitors.

Haverford will now open Centennial Conference play on Saturday with a pivotal road test at #16 Franklin & Marshall. Game time at Tylus Field in Lancaster is set for noon.
