Volleyball Rolls Past Elizabethtown, 3-0

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Haverford College volleyball team (8-2) swept the Elizabethtown Blue Jays (7-3), 25-21, 25-21, 25-12, on Wednesday inside Thompson Gymnasium. The Fords' offensive efficiency was on display with 45 kills, including two players in double figures.

The victory extends Haverford's best start to a season since 2021, when the Scarlet and Black opened 11-1.

In the opening set, the Blue Jays jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Fords quickly responded with a 4-0 run, highlighted by a block from Izabela Potocnjak and Fiona Moord, to take a 4-2 advantage.

The set remained tight as Elizabethtown battled back to 12-12 on a service ace by Leah Gormley. From there, Haverford maintained a narrow edge and later extended its lead to 23-18 on a kill by Elizabeth Cella. Eliana Brown closed out the set with a kill off a feed from Kayla Chu to secure a 25-21 win.

The second set followed a similar script, as the Blue Jays capitalized on Haverford miscues to build a 6-2 lead. The Fords chipped away behind kills from Moord, trimming the deficit to 11-7. A key momentum shift came when Charlotte Dziki sparked the attack with multiple kills, pulling Haverford even at 18-18. Strong blocking from Moord and Dziki down the stretch fueled a 6-2 run that sealed another 25-21 set win.

The Fords started the third set strong with a 5-0 run, racing out to a 5-0 lead that included a service ace from Potocnjak. Setter Cameryn DeBlecourt helped coordinate the offense effectively, connecting with Potocnjak for a kill to make it 13-6. Elizabethtown attempted to rally back to 7-4, but Haverford's defense, with blocks from Moord and Dziki, kept them at bay. Moord's steady attacking and contributions from Dasha Igonin helped the Fords close out the sweep with a commanding 25-12 victory.

Moord paced Haverford with 12 kills on a .450 hitting percentage while adding five blocks. Cella contributed 10 kills, Potocnjak added seven kills and three aces, while DeBlecourt chipped in 19 assists.

For Elizabethtown, Lucy Stern anchored the defense with 18 digs, while Emma Rizzutto added six more. On offense, Lucy Stanek led the Blue Jays with eight kills, though she was hampered by eight errors. Marah Glenn added 11 assists and three kills with a .125 hitting percentage.

Up next, the Fords return home to Gooding '84 Arena to host Stevenson on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m.
