Women's Soccer Blanks Susquehanna, 1-0

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The Haverford College women's soccer (1-1-0) team defeated the Susquehanna River Hawks (0-2-0) 1-0 at Sassafras Field on Sunday. Haverford scored the lone goal in the first half, capitalizing on one of their eight shots on goal. With the shutout over the River hawks, the Scarlet and Black collected their first victory of the 2025 season.

The Fords took an early lead against Susquehanna with a goal from Katie Dowd in the 12th minute. The sophomore rocketed home a ball that pinged around the box area following a Haverford corner kick. Susquehanna attempted to respond with multiple shots on goal, including an early attempt by Hannah Parslow, but goalkeeper Lily Buyer was effective in goal for the Fords. Haverford maintained pressure with several shots on target and corner kicks, but River Hawk goalkeeper Katie Henchy managed to keep the scoreline at 1-0 by the end of the first half.

The Fords dominated the shot attempts throughout the second half against the River Hawks, beginning with a corner kick early on and a series of shots by Mia Peifer and Sophia Mitchell shortly after. Susquehanna's defense, particularly Henchy, held firm as she recorded multiple saves, notably stopping shots from Mitchell in the 52nd and 62nd minutes. Susquehanna struggled to mount an offensive threat, being called offside twice and committing several fouls, ultimately leading to a scoreless second half with Haverford maintaining a 1-0 lead from earlier in the game.

Mitchell led the Fords in shots with four attempts, two of which were on goal. Dowd scored the team's only goal, which was also the game-winner, contributing significantly to the team's performance.

Henchy was a standout performer for Susquehanna, recording seven saves in the match. She faced 20 shots and allowed only one goal across 90 minutes. Parslow contributed offensively by leading the team in shots on goal, recording one shot, which was also on target. Stickley added to the offensive efforts with one shot attempt, although it was not on goal.

In their next game, Haverford will welcome Catholic University to Walton Field on September 6. The match is set for 2 p.m. in Haverford, Pa.
