Full ITA Release

TEMPE, Ariz. – Haverford College men's tennis head coach Eric Spangler has been named the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's Tennis Coach of the Year for the Atlantic South Region, the organization announced in a release Monday afternoon.

Each year, the ITA honors coaches and student-athletes who demonstrate excellence both on the court and within their communities. This award recognizes a coach who has exhibited outstanding leadership that positively influences team performance, sportsmanship, and community engagement throughout the season.

The Haverford men's tennis team concluded a historic 2025 season with a 16–6 record, earning a No. 16 national ranking and the No. 4 spot in the Atlantic South regional rankings. The Fords matched the program record for wins, returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nearly 30 years, secured their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, and advanced to the Centennial Conference final for the first time in over a decade.

Following the campaign, Haverford garnered six All-Centennial Conference selections and four College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. With consistent performances throughout the season, the Fords remained a fixture in the national rankings, leveling up their performance in the midst of one of the most successful eras in program history.

Spangler was previously named Centennial Conference Coach of the Year in his first season with the Fords in 2022, guiding the team to what was then its highest national ranking of the era at No. 28 entering the conference tournament. He was also recognized as the 2019 Landmark Conference Coach of the Year while at Goucher College.

The ITA divides its honors across four regions: Atlantic South, Central, Northeast, and West. Division III Playing Awards include: Wilson ITA Coach of the Year, ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Most Improved Senior, ITA Senior Player of the Year, and the ITA Community Service Award.

National award winners will be announced on Wednesday, May 20.
