HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (8-4, 1-3 CC) dropped its third Centennial Conference matchup of the season, falling 16–6 to No. 7 Gettysburg (7-3, 3-0 CC) on a cloudy Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.
Philip Passalaqua led the Fords with a three-point outing, scoring two goals and adding an assist. Evan Wolpert also tallied two goals for Haverford. Defensively, Ronan West and Drew Buck each collected three ground balls, while Buck went 5-of-18 at the faceoff X. In goal, Jacob Abraham made 13 saves on 28 shots faced.
Gettysburg struck first and quickly built a 3–0 lead in the opening quarter behind goals from Patrick Maroney (player-up), Charlie Johnson, and Jack Dunleavy. Colin Hulett responded with a man-up goal for the Fords at the 5:37 mark, but the Bullets answered with four straight—two more from Dunleavy and one apiece from Will Hedley and Ethan Kessler—to take a commanding 7–1 lead after one.
The scoring barrage continued in the second quarter as Gettysburg extended its lead with goals from Maroney, Cooper Savoy, and Vincent Ferrara, pushing the advantage to 10–1. Passalaqua momentarily halted the run with his first of the day, but the Bullets closed the half strong with goals from Jackson Hearn, Ferrara, and Luke Barbera, carrying a 13–2 lead into the break.
The Bullets kept rolling in the second half, as Jackson Barroll found the net just 46 seconds into the third quarter. Will Weinstein scored for the Fords more than nine minutes later to make it 14–3, but Dunleavy responded with his fourth goal of the contest to give Gettysburg a 15–3 edge heading into the final quarter.
Wolpert netted back-to-back goals early in the fourth to cut the deficit to 15–5, and Passalaqua added his second of the game to make it 15–6 with just under five minutes to play. However, Jake McLoy's goal at the 2:13 mark sealed the win for Gettysburg, who left Swan Field with a 16–6 victory.
Haverford will look to bounce back quickly as it hosts Muhlenberg on Wednesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. under the lights at Swan Field. The matchup will also serve as the annual Play With Pride game in collaboration with Haverford's Play With Pride club.
